Katie ~ GA

Katie Cakes is a 9 year old GSP who was surrendered to the shelter by her previous owners. The shelter didn’t get any background information on her other than her name. But once she came to SE GSP Rescue, she knew she had it
made! Katie may be 9 years old, but she has tons of energy.  We call her our “9 year old puppy.” She has more stamina than almost every one of our other dogs. And she’s super smart! She has had some training in her former life because she knows sit, down, stay, roll over, shake, leave it, and come. And she just wants to please, all the time. One of my favorite things about her is that she tries to do sit, down, and roll over all at the same time. She just gets in such a hurry to make us happy, it turns into a flop-down, flop-over, and jump up for love.

She is house-trained and crate-trained, although she does cry in the crate for the first few minutes. She doesn’t bark a lot, but she will let you know when she hears a knock at the door. She also starts barking when our other dogs bark.  Katie is probably too energetic and rambunctious to have around small children. She is a big girl at 70 pounds, and she has no concept of personal space which is pretty darn cute when she wants love. She also cannot go to a home with cats, as she is very cat sharp and very interested in everything they do. She would be great in a home with other male dog or as an only dog. She’s so playful and big that she seems to rub my girls the wrong way. She is as big as a male and prefers to hang with them and hunt in the yard. For that reason, I think she may be a good dog to train for hunting. She doesn’t seem scared of anything, so I don’t think she would be gun-shy. But I can’t guarantee that because we don’t have any history on her, so her forever family definitely needs to want her as a house dog first (in case she can’t hunt).

While we don’t know Katie’s back story, I can tell you that she is ready to make someone a super happy GSP owner. I think she could even do some agility work because she is so willing to please her owners. And she certainly doesn’t act like she’s an “old” dog! She is heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, up-to-date on all vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. And all of that means she is ready to move in to a new home and live the life she deserves! If you’re interested in adopting Katie, please fill out an application & email Tiffany.
