Hi, my name is Abraham Lincoln but you can call me Abe. I’m a very sweet and gentle soul. Like the President I was named after, I have distinguished eyebrows that show my age! Even though I have a little gray, I’m only 9 and for a GSP, that’s still young and I still act like a younger happy, goofy GSP.

I have amazing recall and love to be with my people. I’m happiest when running and I spend most of my time running around my foster parent’s back yard hunting squirrels and moles. I’m great with dogs of all ages, sizes and temperaments. I may not play with them much, but I’ve been caught snuggling with my two GSP foster siblings from time to time. Like any gentleman, I give great and appropriate feedback to other dogs and puppies when I need my “grown up” space.

I’m really good with children. However, like any GSP, all bets are off when the tennis ball is out and I forget that people are around me and may knock them over if they are small. I haven’t met a cat yet, but I have an impeccable GSP prey drive and am an accomplished mole hunter so cats are probably a bad idea.

Overall, I‘m a very good boy – but I do have a mischievous side so given the opportunity I will get into things (e.g. Counter surfing, trash, etc.). My recall has been called stellar by my foster family – I ALWAYS come when called. I will sit, but I tend to get pushy for attention sometimes.

Although I am a master mole hunter, I am a very sensitive guy too and I have a very soft temperament (I may have gotten into some trouble in my past lives – I act like I am walking on eggshells and expect to get in trouble when I’m inside).

My foster Mom thinks I would do great in a home with someone who could be with me most of the day (I think that would be great too). I don’t love kennels (understatement) and I would actually eventually injure myself trying to get out of one. I’m okay if you baby gate an area so I have a space that is 100% Abe proof. I have to be treated like a puppy. LOL.

I need someone familiar with the breed who can be a gentle and firm  leader. With patience I will excel in my forever home – I can’t wait to show you!

If you’re interested in adding me to your family, please complete an adoption application (if you haven’t already) and email my foster Mom Kari at so she can tell you more about me!

The Southeast GSP Rescue adoption fee is $375 for adult dogs, which
includes up-to-date vaccinations, spaying/neutering, microchip, heartworm testing and testing for internal parasites.
