“Oh, sweet Boon…

When I picked you up from your temporary foster, it was clear that your abundance of energy and lack of formal training meant you needed a place better suited for your abilities—and I didn’t hesitate for a second. I love my wild boys, and you absolutely did not disappoint.

What I didn’t realize was how badly I needed a dog like you to walk through my door after the year I had. You made me laugh more than I have in a very long time. Every single time I called your name, you made that goofy face that instantly brought the biggest smile to mine.

You are the definition of a German Shorthaired Pointer. There is not one negative bone in your body—no behavioral issues, no problems, nothing but pure joy. You are wild, full-speed lightning energy at all times, but you are happy. You love everything and everyone. You don’t meet strangers—dogs or humans—you just exist alongside them to make their lives better.

You brought out the puppy in every dog in my house. You turned my home into a full-on frat party all day, every day—and I welcomed every bit of it. Having such a perfect specimen of a German Shorthaired Pointer with zero behavioral issues was exactly what my heart needed.

If I had the room—and didn’t already have five of your cousins—I would have never let you go. You are identical to my soul dog, Fatty McFatterson, at your age. The same spirit, the same joy, the same spark. Seeing that in you warmed my heart in a way I can’t even explain, and I knew it meant you were going to be incredible no matter where you landed.

And then your mom, Barbara, reached out.

I followed along with her current GSP and already knew—this was an active family. Hikers. Adventurers. A retired dad who loves car rides. They had already reached out to a barn hunt group in their area so you could sniff, chase, and live exactly the life you were meant for.

I told them every story. Every wild detail. Every ounce of your chaos. And they accepted it all with open arms, knowing from the very beginning that you were their dog.

After talking with them, I knew without a doubt—you are going to thrive. You hit the jackpot, Boon. I could not be happier for you.

I can’t wait to follow your journey, see your updates, watch you play with your new sister the same way you played with my dogs. And since you don’t live far, I know I’ll get to see you again—and that makes my heart very happy.

Now you, my friend… behave yourself on the car ride home (at least a little), and live your life exactly the way this family is going to let you—full speed, full joy, no limits.

I am so proud of the dog you are and the dog you are going to become. With your intelligence, heart, and drive, the sky truly is the limit. There is nothing you won’t excel at.

I’m just so flipping excited for you, Boon—and I cannot wait to watch you grow.
