In Memory of
our beloved GSPs
2024
Sad news… we learned our 2011 Alumnus Buck has passed away.
Buck came to rescue when he was surrendered to us by his owners in 2011 and was fostered by our AL/MS State Coordinator Beth. She cared for Buck and found an awesome home for him with Dennis and Liz in early 2012. His dad Dennis said, “Buck was an awesome GSP… Buck was very sweet and gentle with all humans, especially kids and other animals. You could take him anywhere. I even took him to see people in assisted living facilities and he was amazing. My family and other GSP, Mollie, miss him so much. Buck died peacefully at home surrounded by family a couple of weeks ago and he was 14 years old.” “The world would be a much nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog.” M.K.Clinton Our hearts are breaking… Our 2021 alumnus Tuff has lost his battle with cancer.
Tuff came to rescue as a senior after living his entire life in an abusive environment. But from age 9-12, Tuff lived the best life with his “true” forever family. His mom Kelly said, “All he did was love us and everyone he met. He was 12 and a half years old, but you would never know it. He was our big donkey, scrambling down the stairs without regard for his safety (or others'!) and tormenting his sister Rosie. …he ran everywhere he went, even when it was just to get a drink of water; and then promptly ran back to his spot on the couch. We always told our house guests, when you hear him coming just plant your feet and hold on. We received bad news a couple of weeks ago that he had an aggressive malignant mouth tumor. We thought it was a tooth infection and were surprised to learn that it was a tumor on the roof of his mouth. He was a happy and loved boy and we made his remaining days the best. We have had so much cuddle time in our last weeks together. Our vet came to the house and his passing was so gentle and so peaceful. We appreciate all that you do and thank you so much for trusting us with his last few years. He was the sweetest boy, and we feel honored he felt safe enough to open his heart to us and let us take care of him. Thank you for everything you do and for bringing him into our lives. We are forever grateful. Our hearts are broken. Kelly and Weston” We are so thankful that Tuff enjoyed the last few years of his time on earth. He was truly loved and cherished by his family! “Nothing is more beautiful than a smile that has struggled through tears.” Demi Lovato We have some news today. We were told that our 2014 alumna Heidi passed away four years ago. Heidi's foster parents Betty and Larry put so much love into caring for Heidi that they just couldn't let her go and became official foster failures on September 17th, 2014.
Heidi came to rescue as a senior (about 9 years old) when her family was unable to keep her. She obviously had a LOT more life and love to give and ‘that she did.’ She loved everyone, but especially her mom and dad so very much. Heidi was joined by her GSP brother Hodgy last month so we can envision the reunion and smile. “What we shared will never die, it lives within my heart, bringing strength and comfort while we are apart.” Unknown |
