Welcome to rescue Bob, aka Jasper (FL, 1 yo, 67 lbs.)! Bob came to a Florida shelter as a stray, and his owner never came for him. He’s been neutered and was not a fan of the cone, but once the cone was off, he enjoyed a little dog-yoga LOL!
Her foster mom Marcia said “He's not a fan of the cone after surgery, and leash training is a challenge (he needs a harness and a collar with two leashes but he's getting better...until another dog or a squirrel catches his attention - then he can still drag me - we're working on it!)” We’ve learned he is good in the house, is crate-trained, house-trained, loves to run and hunt birds. He rides well in a car, needs to gain some weight but is a very solid boy. He has some manners and seems trainable. Thank you to Linda for temp fostering Bob and of course THANK YOU to his foster mom Marcia (her 2nd SEGSP foster dog)! #WelcomeBob #GSPhandsome #GSPcommunity Stella, aka Annie (NC, 5 yo), is an adorable little bundle of energy. Her foster dad Erik sent us this update:
“We are having so much fun with this little pocket pointer! Annie (formerly Stella) is now 35lbs and no more than 5 years old per Marsh Vet. She is now housebroken, crate trained, is learning basic commands, knows her name and loves her daily walks. Just this past week Annie found the joy of toys (not a defluffer per se but clearly moves about two dozen of them around the house each day) and loves to drop them all on our bed in the morning. We also just heard her bark for the first time since we’ve had her - almost a month! She barked at the handyman of all things. She is so sweet and very affectionate and will seek out attention (Velcro dog for sure). She is also a wiggle butt, and her tail has not stopped wagging. She just learned to use the doggie door and is e-collared trained. She is very smart and eager to learn and very food motivated. She has a high prey drive for squirrels and lizards but not deer. She has bonded with both our resident pups (Grant the Lab and Nola the GSP) and follows their queues for what to do! Oh and did we mention she snores - super cute!” Unfortunately, Stella is heartworm positive and has a couple more months of treatment left before she’s ready for adoption. She will be receiving her first heartworm treatment injection on December 29th. THANK YOU to her wonderful foster family, Erik and Carla. Stella is their 6th SEGSP foster dog and maybe, just maybe, their 2nd foster fail? We are so very thankful for all they’ve done for our rescue! #nc Maggie (GA, 5 yo) has truly been a blessing to her foster family.
Her foster mom, Angela, shared this beautiful update: “She has been so good for Gus (formerly Odin), and also good for me, following my mom’s death in June. Gus has been suffering from idiopathic epilepsy for two years. Prescription medications, supplements, dietary changes, and even visits to four different vets did little to control his seizures. On the advice of a TCVM vet, we tried fostering ‘a young female’—our Maggie. I’m thrilled to say that Gus hasn’t had a seizure in over five months. They are best friends, playing and sleeping together nonstop.” Maggie came to rescue in August after being abandoned, weighing just 31 pounds and heartworm positive. Since then, she’s been spayed and has successfully completed her heartworm treatment (yay, Maggie! ). While we’d normally say she’s ready to begin her search for a forever home… we have a feeling that search may already be over. We can’t wait for the official announcement. And GOOD BOY, SEGSP alum Gus!!! We are so proud and beyond happy that you’ve been seizure-free - with a little help from your very special girl, Maggie. #ga Jo (GA, 1 yo) has been through her 4-month heartworm treatment but sadly hasn’t tested negative yet so she will be in rescue for at least another month while she continues to heal.
It was also discovered during her treatment that her spay incision was infected. She had laser treatment on the area and she may need another round to fully heal. And if that wasn’t enough bad news, she also has developed a small bump on her tail that’s been bothering her, so she’s headed back to the vet to have that examined as well. Her foster mom Melissa said, “Overall, she continues to grow more confident and secure. She’s doing better on the leash, playing more with other dogs, kids, and even the cat! I’ll keep you posted on her progress.” Thank you, Melissa – you are Jo’s best friend and protector! Thank you also to Jo’s temp foster volunteers, Benito and Bethany, who took care of Jo for a month while the GA team searched for a foster home while she went through treatment. #ga Beau entered rescue in the Carolinas over the weekend after being surrendered to a vet clinic for euthanasia due to seizures. He’s roughly 4 years old, and despite not having been on any medication previously, the clinic started him on Keppra — and he has not had a single seizure since.
A huge thank-you to the compassionate team at Ambassador Animal Hospital for keeping him safe, neutering him, and bringing him up to date on vaccines. And another heartfelt thanks to Sara, a clinic staff member who graciously helped transport Beau to his foster home. We’re also incredibly grateful to Chandler, who welcomed Beau into her home and is giving him the fresh start he deserves. Foster Update: Beau has a lot of anxious energy right now, which is understandable given everything he’s been through. He’s a bit nervous around the resident dog, so they’re taking introductions slowly and giving him space to decompress. He’s definitely not crate trained yet, so Chandler will be working on that along with other basic training. But beyond those first-day jitters, Beau is an absolute sweetheart. He loves attention, is incredibly affectionate, and happily takes his medication — especially if it comes wrapped in a treat. This boy has already shown so much resilience, and we can’t wait to watch him blossom in foster care. He will need 4 short weeks in rescue before being available for adoption. #SC |
