Welcome to SEGSP Rescue Gertie (GA, 8 mo). This pretty gal is finishing up her booster vaccines, and her foster family has been amazed at how sweet and easy she is (for an 8-month-old GSP).
Gertie is black and white roan GSP and she was roaming the streets with her sister Hazel, aka Bandit. Her foster mom Kristen said, “We have the pleasure of fostering her and she is our sweetest and easiest foster ever! She is a pure joy and amazingly chill for her age. She is also a very smart girl and is completely potty trained, knows the commands kennel, sit, shake, and down and we are working on come and off as she does like to counter surf and jump. She walks well on a leash and loves to wrestle and play tug with her foster sister Scout. Everyone in our family just loves her! She’s equal parts fun and affectionate. Oh, and she definitely has the GSP hunting and pointing genes and is keeping a close watch on the chipmunks in our yard!” THANK YOU to Gertie’s temp foster mom Vanessa, and to Kristen and David for fostering Gertie and showing her the ropes and evaluating her temperament. We look forward to more posts and photos… #ga Welcome to SEGSP Hazel, aka Bandit (GA)! This pretty girl came to rescue with fleas, ticks, hookworms and whipworms. And sadly, tested slight positive for a tick-borne disease called Elicia. She’s doing well now; in fact, she moved from her temp foster home with Vanessa to Denise.
Denise said, “She is doing well. She is finally feeling comfortable enough to explore the yard on her own and chase squirrels. She goes into her crate to sleep and rest on her own (bedtime I have to tell her but for resting she is comfortable). She has a quilt. …We have to see if she will chew it up or not. She is a sweetie. We are working on ‘Off’ - so she doesn't jump. She is not a counter surfer which is good. And she is the slowest eater! She is funny, she barks at our yard art until we show her it is not going to move. Very Smart - tell her no one time and she listens (except for jumping).” Thank you to both Vanessa and Denise for helping Bandit along her rescue journey! Bandit will be spayed soon and once she’s cleared of those nasty worms, and her foster mom feels she knows Bandit’s temperament and what type of family she needs, Bandit will then be ready for adoption. #ga Welcome to SEGSP Maggie (GA, 5 yo)!
Her foster mom Angela said, “Maggie is one week post-spay and is doing great! She and Gus (formerly Odin) are best friends, and she is getting used to our cats. She loves to play hard and takes short little catnaps throughout the day. After a rough start, she is finally sleeping through the night in a crate. We’re feeding her in a large wire kennel, and she lies in there during our mealtimes. She quickly learned to not beg at the table or counter surf. Despite many, many, many potty breaks, she is still having occasional accidents in the house. I know this can be resolved with a little more time and effort. She has only been out of the animal shelter for 5 days. Health-wise, she is gaining badly needed weight. She was too thin at just 31 lbs. Now she’s up to 36. Maggie takes her antibiotics like a champ, twice a day. She begins heartworm treatment next week and will need some pharmaceutical support to stay calm and keep her heart rate down during treatment and recovery. …Maggie is a smart girl, who is alert and interested in everything. She is affectionate and likes to snuggle or sit at your feet. She takes direction well. Maggie would be a wonderful addition to almost any home.” Thank you, Angela, for fostering Maggie for 4 months. This is Angela’s 2nd foster dog for SEGSP (Gus being their first). We look forward to more updates as she goes through treatment. #ga Welcome to rescue Jo (GA, 1 yo). Many of you may recognize this cutie who, along with her sister Junie, were in need of a foster home. Jo was freed by the Magana Family. Junie is still stuck in the shelter and needs saving. We need to pull her and get her into a Foster home ASAP. If you can help, please contact Amanda and Jordan at [email protected], [email protected]. If you are one of those who reached out to the GA team and haven’t received a response, we apologize and thank you for your patience – they are very busy reviewing all of the messages and will respond ASAP. If you have not reached out, and are interested in fostering, please email Jordan and Amanda. Reminder: SEGSP expects foster homes to keep their foster dogs inside (i.e. not in an outside kennel or left outside), as they need to become acclimated to indoor family life. Also, all foster homes for SEGSP must be within the 7 southeast states. With Junie being a flight risk, we need a patient & kind person that also has a fenced-in yard. Thank you to Benito and Beth who have agreed to foster Jo! We look forward to welcoming Junie as well very soon. #ga |
