Meet Henry — and help us cheer him on!
Henry is extra thankful this November! He just wrapped up his Doxycycline and Prednisone treatment and is enjoying a little breather before his first heartworm injection in December. Through it all, this sweet boy has stayed his usual active, goofy, always-happy self. Henry’s dream forever home? A fenced-in yard to zoom around Lots of treats Plenty of hikes and walks Car rides (his fave!) And maybe… a future as a field dog? He’s not quite sure what he’s doing yet, but he sure loves the idea! His instincts are great, and he loves following his foster sister’s lead when she goes on point during walks. This handsome guy has so much love — and potential — to give. Stay tuned as Henry continues his heartworm journey, and help us cheer him on as he gets one step closer to the forever family he deserves. #MS Henry (MS, 3 yo, 65 lbs.) is handling his heartworm treatment like a true champ.
His foster dad Joshua said, “Henry is doing really well. His ears are better already and just a couple more days should be back to 100%. He is not a fan of the cage restrictions (see image for what he thinks of that). He is just a 65lb baby that wants to be next/touching you, so he does whine. He is crate trained and will adhere to “crate” command. He sleeps really well in the crate at night. He has so much personality and is just happy to be included in any of your activities. (Extra for rides and snack time). He has lots of energy and drive; several times he has pointed or brought his leash for a walk… An active lifestyle would fit him best as a forever home. I would not recommend a home with small children or senior citizens…. There will be no malicious intent but his size, excitement, and at time lack of special awareness would not pair well.” When Henry came to rescue, he was in rough shape—heartworm positive, underweight, and recovering from a leg injury after being abandoned by his owner. Thanks to a kind Good Samaritan who stepped in and contacted SEGSP, Henry now has a second chance at the life he deserves. He’s gaining healthy weight, feeling stronger every day, and has just a couple more months of treatment before he’ll be ready to find his forever home. A huge thank you to Joshua and Regan for giving Henry the love, structure, and fun he needed to start thriving! #ms Henry (MS, 3 yo) may have had some smelly ear issues that are much better now, but he’s doing well in rescue overall and has started his heartworm treatment. If all goes well, Henry will be done with his treatment in January and can start the new year with his future forever family.
His foster dad Joshua said, “He has been doing really good in the home and has really taken to his environment. He is the absolute sweetest dog and is all love. He loves with his whole body (he actually will put his whole-body weight on you). He has little to no spacial awareness and is very prone to running into things. He is currently at 64 lbs and was really good at the vet. He is getting much better on the leash and learning his manners. He has discovered pup cups and thinks that the magical fairies (the baristas) only mission (job) is to deliver his pup cups through the portal (drive thru window). He is still performing sqeakerectomys” Thank you, Joshua and Regan, for fostering Henry! He came to rescue in rough shape when a Good Samaritan took him in and contacted us. It appeared that he had been abandoned, was heartworm positive, very thin and was treated for a leg injury. His life is forever changed by the caring people helping him. Henry (MS, 3 yo, 66 lbs), on the right, is doing amazing according to his foster dad Joshua. He is healing up from his neuter surgery well and looking forward to when his heartworm treatment is over. He is learning every day and gaining manners.
Joshua said, “He is a good boy but does not like when foster-dad moves too fast (maybe some trauma there). He and his foster-sister (Pepper) have become best friends. He has the love and energy to share with her. He also has his doctorate and specializes in squeaker-ectomy surgery. Henry does well with cats, is eager to learn (highly food motivated), loves to go on rides and walks and is a champion cuddle partner.” Thank you, Joshua! Henry has a few more months in rescue while he heals from heartworms before he’s ready for adoption. We look forward to more updates. #ms #gspamazing #goodboygsp #germanshorthairedpointer Henry (MS, 3 yo, 66 lbs.) is healing nicely from the leg wound he had when he came into rescue in July. He was retested for heartworms and unfortunately, yes, he has them. His rescue story is sad… found by a Good Samaritan (thank you Shannon) after apparently being abandoned). Our awesome volunteer, Joshua, offered to foster Henry and is giving him an awesome place to heal, get some basic training and lots of love so he can heal physically and emotionally.
Joshua said, “He is an absolute sweetheart. Henry is your typical Velcro GSP that what’s to be everywhere you are. He loves pets and will try and climb in your lap as soon as you sit down. We are still working on some manners as he is just happy to be loved. He wants so badly to be on the couch (still working on that). Every second is play-time as he has tons of energy. He isn’t aggressive at all and is a bit skittish of quick movements. He is very docile and he is quick to play with the cat but will back down very quickly. He loves to be outside and play tug-o-war with his foster sister and foster parents.” Henry has been neutered but will be in rescue for a few more months while he heals from his heartworms before he’s ready for adoption. We look forward to happy updates on Henry. #MS Johnny’s journey now includes finding his voice and, of course, healing. Sweet Johnny (8 yo, MS) had his first heartworm treatment injection on Friday — a big milestone on his road to recovery! His foster mom, MaryAsa, shared that Johnny found his bark this week — and it’s just as gentle and endearing as he is.
Johnny loves car rides, swimming, and resting his head in your lap for pets and attention. He came to rescue alongside his best friend June (now looking for her forever home on our website) after a Good Samaritan witnessed both dogs being thrown over a bridge and brought them safely to an Alabama shelter. A huge thank you to MaryAsa, who is giving Johnny the love and care he’s always deserved. He has two more months of heartworm treatment before he’ll be ready to find his forever family — and we can’t wait to see him happy in his forever home. #MS |
