🐾 Welcome, Pixie (NC)! 🐾
Sweet Pixie has officially joined the SEGSP Rescue family and is settling in beautifully! 💕 She’s learning all about the good life as an inside dog — playing with her foster sister Piper, exploring the fenced-in wooded yard (zoomies included 🏃♀️💨), and discovering the joy of dog toys for the very first time. 🎾 It’s been such a joy watching her begin to trust and open up — each day brings a little more sparkle to her personality. ✨ A huge thank you to Crystal for fostering Pixie and helping her begin this new chapter filled with love, safety, and adventure! 💛 #SEGSPRescue #WelcomePixie #FosterLove #AdoptDontShop Junie (aka Junie Bug, NC, est 4-6 years old) has come such a looooong way since entering rescue. From being emaciated, sick with heartworms and absolutely terrified, to finally knowing love, safety, and comfort for the first time in her life.
Her foster mom, Michelle, said, “We just love her so much! As a true GSP she’s obsessed with toys and always has to have one in her mouth. She’s done really well learning ‘come’ and she takes her ‘sit ‘and ‘hold’ very seriously as she knows how important it is when posing for pics. I can’t wait to make her an official Parson.” Thanks to her devoted foster mom, Junie is just a couple weeks away from finishing her heartworm treatment and is experiencing GSP heaven with the Parson Posse crew. Can you say “loved”? Oh yeah – this sweet girl is soaking it all in! THANK YOU, MICHELLE! #nc Kaiser (NC) joined us last week from the Berkeley County Animal Shelter. He’s about 3 years old, heartworm negative (yay!), but does have a knee injury. He’s already been seen by our vet and will be going back Monday for X-rays to determine if surgery will be needed. We’ll know more about his treatment plan next week.
A huge thank you to Ellen, Michelle, and Julia for helping transport this sweet boy—and an extra special thanks to Julia for fostering Kaiser through his rescue journey. From Julia: “He is such a sweetheart—total Velcro dog! He had a few potty accidents the first day, but he’s been doing great since then. He seems new to leash walking, and the harness has been key. He really is a wonderful dog!” Stay tuned for more updates as Kaiser settles into rescue life! #nc Boone (NC, 2 yo) is 3 weeks post having his last two heartworm treatment shots and he is doing great!
His foster mom Tristian said, “He is soooo ready to get off the leash and able to run and be his normal free self. When Boone went in to get his shots, I asked them for his weight, and he is up to 57 pounds! He was only 45lbs (and losing) when I first got him. Goes to show how far he has come along! After getting him we struggled with a sensitive GI tract and keeping food down, we were prescribed a GI Biome food from the vet that helped mellow everything out. Recently, we started transitioning him over to a non-prescription food (still low calorie to help his GI) and he made the transition over smoothly without triggering any of our previous GI issues. He has fully transitioned over to the new food and is doing great! I do believe that he can be transitioned at some point over to a more normal food for his breed when the time is right. Boone is the biggest cuddler of the house and the most loving dog, true GSP fashion. … Boone has never met a stranger and also loves meeting other dogs. Everyone that meets him instantly falls in love with him! He is such a gentle soul but also still has that GSP spunk where he is ready to go at any moment. He knows the difference between inside and outside play, which is great for dogs, especially GSPs. It has truly been such an honor fostering Boone and getting him to the point where he is now so that he can thrive in his forever home, which I have no doubt that he will!” Thank you, Tristian! Taking on a heartworm positive dog is a 4-month commitment and we appreciate your dedication to Boone. Boone has ONE more week left of exercise restriction before he’s ready to start his search for his forever family. #nc Junie (NC, 10 yo) goes in tomorrow and Thursday for her 2nd and 3rd heartworm treatment injections. Prayers that all goes well for our precious girl!
Her foster mom, Michelle (from the infamous Parson Posse) calls her Junie Bug and after these injections she has ONE month left of recovery before she’s ready for adoption. - Thank you Michelle, (and the Posse), – you are a GSP Wizard, so we know she is in excellent hands. #NC Please send Beau, aka Ice (NC, 3 yo), prayers and well wishes as he goes in to be neutered tomorrow. He has turned the corner and is stealing hearts wherever he goes! He is finally free of the nasty worms and is overall just feeling better.
His foster mom Kathy said, “He gets along with every dog he meets, loves everybody and this morning showed a great interest in the bunny in the front yard. He has one more test (parasite) that has to be sent off, but we are hopeful it is gone as well. He will be with me for several more weeks to gain some more weight. Beau has the cutest folds on the front of his ears…. My daughter has dubbed them his “instruction deflectors”!! I think he is finally healthy enough to really work on his manners!! He does great with sit/stay/come and crate. Leash walking is a work in progress, and he does better each day.” Thank you so much Kathy… for everything you do for SEGSP. Kathy is not only fostering Beau but has fostered THIRTY-FOUR dogs for SEGSP since 2022 with only 2 successful foster fails. And in addition to that, she is our NC/SC Volunteer Coordinator, putting in countless hours coordinating home visits for adopters and foster volunteers, transports, and a gazillion other tasks that coordinators do. A thank you seems so little for all she does… but THANK YOU Kathy! #nc Boone (NC, 2 yo) has reached the halfway point of his heartworm treatment – yay! He came to rescue pretty sick, i.e. heartworm positive, with whipworms and hookworms, but he is almost completely healthy thanks to his foster mom Tristian’s love and care.
Tristian said, “Boone has been great dealing with his limited exercise with the shot, he actually is a pretty chill guy! He loves to cuddle with you and just hang out. Since he is so chill I am able to not have to crate him too much as he just will hang out on his dog bed and chew on his bones/chew toys and other things I have gotten him to keep him preoccupied during this time. He absolutely loves to ride in the car! All he needs is the back windows down and he just sits there and takes in all the smells. Every time we go outside, he goes straight to the gate and looks at the car and then back at me to take him for a ride. He absolutely loves his foster brothers and will cuddle with them whenever he can as well! We have learned that Boone is not a fan of loud noises (fireworks and thunder). He typically does fine in his kennel during these situations but will also be okay next to you on the couch. He is such a great dog, loving, and goofy. He loves a toy as well. In the beginning we did have issues over aggressiveness and possessions over toys, but we have overcome that now and will gladly share his toys and loves a good round of tug-of-war.” Thanks for the great update, Tristian! Boone has 2 more months of treatment before he can start his search for a forever home. #nc Time for an update on Junie (NC,10 yo) who came to rescue after a very heartbreaking life. She came from a shelter in TN after being found malnourished and emaciated at only 33lbs and heartworm positive. Our GSP dream foster home family agreed to foster her, i.e. the Parson family, and she is living the dream life while she heals physically and emotionally.
Her foster mom Michelle said, “The Parson Posse hosted their cousins in the mountains last weekend! Everyone did great and they had lots of off leash adventures together. Look at cute little SEGSP alum Sofia (white, far left) and their foster GSP, sweet Junie (pink collar). She had her first e-collar lesson and is doing really well with come and sit. She’s been putting her sit and hold skills to use posing with the posse. She is still a little skittish around new people at first, but she warms up quickly. She is super sweet and playful. Loves to snuggle and loves her toys. Her first heartworm treatment injection is September 2 so trying to get in as many adventures as possible before then. She weighed at daycare 2 weeks ago and was up to 39lbs! She is just perfect and we love her to pieces.” Thank you, Michelle! We have no doubt Junie is enjoying rescue life with the Parson Posse! Junie has a couple more months left in rescue while she heals before she’s ready for adoption. #NC |
