Foster Dog News

Join us in welcoming Kara into rescue. She is six years old and came from the Berkeley Animal Shelter in SC. Her foster dad Jamie said her first night/day went well…
Jamie said, “She's typical GSP and pretty exuberant. She's had a lot of socialization and some training. Not much of an off switch. She understands Come, Sit, Off, No, Leave it, recognizes her name, and her reliability work is in progress. No leash training. Rides in a truck well. She is obsessive about balls and stuffies. She loves everyone - big lovebug. Fine with my older male dog. She’s eager to please and eats but doesn’t have a big appetite. Just wound up most of the time, trots and runs everywhere, goes over furniture not around. I walked her 3.5 miles on the beach this a.m. and she curled up for maybe 5 minutes after. She prefers to stand when not running and liked getting a rinse off with a hose. She seems more like a one-year-old, than a six-year-old, and a give-up than a left-behind.” What a great start Kara! She will need a few more weeks in rescue for temperament evaluation and to be spayed before she’s ready for adoption. A very big thank you to Jamie for fostering her. This is Jamie’s 3rd foster dog with SEGSP (and only 1 foster fail…so far 😊). #WelcomeKara #GSPoftheday #GermanShorthairedPointer #SC Duke (7 yo) found a wonderful foster home with Melissa and Stuart in SC – thank you both so much!
Melissa said, “He is doing great! He is very active and well trained. He has been fetching a ball, going on rides in the golf cart, playing with toys, etc. He is definitely a people dog and is so excited to meet everyone. We will definitely take a family photo soon and send it to you! Thank you so much for trusting us with Duke. We love him already!” We’re looking forward to more updates on Duke! #SC Jax (SC, 3 yo) had his first heartworm injection on Tuesday and is okay, but very sleepy. His foster dad Paden said, “He’s the most loving, affectionate boy ever! He wants to be by your side at all times and as close to you as he possibly can. He’s the calmest GSP I have ever - met extremely calm and lazy. Jax might only be 3 but he acts like a grump especially when it’s past his bedtime!”
Jax has 2 more months of heartworm treatment before he can be adopted. A BIG thank you to Paden for fostering a heartworm positive dog – they are the hardest to place and he stepped up right away. Jax is a very lucky boy! #SC We have an update for Century, aka Hondo (SC, 2 yo). His foster mom McKenzie said, “He is doing great! We have been calling him Hondo! At intake at the shelter, he was 36 pounds and when I took him to be weighed last week, he was 58 pounds with still some room to keep gaining! He looks really serious in his pictures, but in person he's just a giant, clumsy goofball! He thinks he is a lap dog and has loved every person he has met so far! He has even made a few doggy friends. He is scheduled to be neutered on June 2nd, and he has a few unwanted behaviors we need to continue working on, but I am hopeful he will be ready for his furever home in the near future. One of my friends came to take some pictures of him and they turned out great!”
We agree with McKenzie, and kudos to your friend for helping Hondo with these handsome photos. And thank you McKenzie for the great update and everything you do to help Hondo! #SC |
