Hi, I’m Johnny (SC)! I was a runaway brought to a shelter, and have been with my foster family for 1 month. I have settled in wonderfully, and love playing with my two foster brothers! I know how to “sit” and “get down”, and have been doing better at learning how to come when called. I have learned not to be anxious when my foster parents leave for work, and sleep on the couch all day while they’re gone and have no accidents! I walk great on a leash with a harness and am a gentleman on car rides. I’m very curious and clever- sometimes I like to be a little naughty and open cabinets and even figured out how to open the refrigerator! Foster mom child-proofed the kitchen, so unfortunately my snooping days are over for now.
I am one of the most gentle, affectionate and calm GSPs you will meet! I love to play with my foster brothers and will chase them and wrestle with them, but what I love most is curling up on the couch and snuggling with people or other dogs. A true “velcro-dog.” Johnny has a few more weeks in rescue before adoption. Stay tuned. #segsprescue #velcrodog Maisie’s (aka Pepper, SC) Happy Update!
Beautiful 11-month-old Maisie has come such a long way! She was diagnosed with steroid-responsive meningitis/arteritis, but after treatment and lots of love, she’s now doing fantastic! Maisie just had her final neurology consult, and her bloodwork came back negative — the best news we could hope for! Her foster family says she’s an absolute sweetheart who loves to play with her furry siblings, a Lab named Grant and a GSP named Nola. She’s full of that classic puppy energy and goofiness, but she also knows how to relax when it’s time to wind down for dinner or a movie. We’ll be working on her adoption write-up and taking some new photos this weekend — so stay tuned to learn more about this adorable girl! #sc This handsome boy, Taz (aka Johnny, SC, 5 yo) entered rescue over the weekend from Dorchester Paws Animal Shelter in Summerville, SC, where he had arrived as a stray. Thankfully, he’s now safe in his foster home and already settling in so well.
Taz is extremely well-mannered and clearly had some training in his past life—he knows how to “sit,” “get down” off furniture, and will even paw at the door to let you know when he wants to go outside. What a smart guy! He’s also proving to be a very sweet soul, getting along beautifully with his foster siblings and making himself right at home. His fosters noticed he didn’t respond much to “Taz” (the name given at the shelter), but he perked right up when they started calling him Johnny—so we’ll see which name sticks as he continues his rescue journey. We’re excited to watch this sweet boy thrive, and we’re confident he’ll have no trouble finding his forever family when the time comes. THANK YOU to Danielle, his foster mom, for welcoming him into her home, giving him a month of temperament evaluation, but most of all, giving him love. Welcome to the SEGSP family, Taz/Johnny! #SC Moe, 4 yrs old in SC, is doing so well in her foster home! She’s an easy-going girl and has adjusted quickly to her new surroundings. We’ve had the occasional house-training accident here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary for a pup learning a new routine.
She and Brooks, her two-year-old GSP foster brother, love to play together (sometimes a little on the rough side!) and she gets along just fine with the other female dog in the home. Moe is also completely unfazed by the cats. Because of her current exercise restrictions, we haven’t been doing leash walks yet, but we are focusing on house manners—she can be a bit of a jumper. Her temperament is truly fantastic: she has such a sweet nature, loves to nuzzle, and just wants to be close. Moe will be heading to the vet next Thursday for her first heartworm treatment injection, and we’ll have her microchip inserted at the same time. #sc Edisto (SC, 1 ½ yo, 61 lbs.) has decided he wants to be a social media influencer. You can find his IG page @edistogsp and follow him daily 😊
In the meantime, he has a couple weeks until his LAST heartworm treatment injection, then one month rest and wait for it… he’ll then be ready to start his search for a forever home YAY! And we’ve learned so far that Edisto is a sweet dog and is highly food-motivated and really loves playing with a ball (his favorite toy). He’s learned to sit and wait before exiting doors, and lots of other commands. This boy is all typical GSP — high energy, wicked smart, and completely ball-obsessed. He’s known for his classic “point” when he’s locked onto a tennis ball and loves checking in for affection between play sessions. Thank you, Ricardo, for fostering Edisto – we know he’s in very good hands! This is Ricardo’s first SEGSP foster dog and he’s doing GREAT! #sc #edistothegsp #socialmediagsp #gspstar Welcome to rescue Moe (SC, 4 yo)! Sweet Moe entered rescue last week from the Columbia, SC Animal Shelter. Shelter staff shared that she was seized from a backyard after being found tied to a pole with no shelter, food, or water. Miss Mo is severely emaciated, with a body condition score of just 1 out of 9, and she also tested positive for heartworms. She will need several months of care, good nutrition, and medical treatment before she will be ready for adoption.
We are so grateful to Rebecca, Tricia, and Peyton for helping with transport, and to Shelley for opening her heart and home to foster Moe on her rescue journey. Please join us in sending Moe all the love and encouragement as she begins her road to recovery. Shelley reports they had an easy first night with Moe. She slept fine in her crate and was a little more energetic this morning than yesterday. She has taken to everyone in my family easily, very loving. #sc #welcomemoe #gspjourney #gspgrateful Maisie, aka Pepper (SC, 11 months), was diagnosed with steroid-responsive meningitis and arthritis, but you’d never know it now — she’s thriving in foster care and loving life!
Her amazing foster family shared: "We thought we were bringing home a fragile pup, but Maisie has been anything but! She’s playful, energetic, and so full of life. She is house trained, having no accidents since day one. She's crate trained and knows some basic commands. We are working on leash training (she gets a 5k+ run/walk every morning) and getting her to use her inside voice (we aren't too successful with this last part). She's a cuddler and definitely a FOMO dog, never wanting to not be in the middle of all the action. Maisie is a sweet, loving GSP Puppy! And puppy she is! She's very inquisitive, energetic and vocal (especially when she wants to play and wrestle with our GSP Nola and Lab Grant). She is e-collar trained, very clever and smart. She is not afraid of loud noises and has a strong pointing instinct. She has been an easy foster to acclimate into our household, and we are enjoying every minute with her (mostly every minute, save for the puppy from the crypt voices she occasionally mutters).” Huge thanks to Carla and Erik for fostering this sweet, sassy girl! Maisie is spayed and vaccinated, so she just needs a couple more months to recover from her condition before she’s ready to search for her forever home. |
