In Memory of
our beloved GSPs
2025
We sadly start the day with sad news. Our 2013 alumnus, Sye (formerly Stubby) has passed away. His dad Robert is devastated and sent us this moving tribute: “I fostered “Stubby” and was a foster failure with him, and his name became “Sye”, as I thought the name Stubby was a bit degrading for him as he was a small guy. On April 26 at 11:45 in the evening I lost him in my arms to heart failure... Happened faster than I thought it was going to be after his diagnosis. I am totally heartbroken because he was the very best thing that ever came into my life. He bonded with me only after a few days, that’s why I knew we were meant to be together.”
Sye had a rough start in life, when he and his pregnant mama GSP ended up in a shelter. His mama had head trauma from a blunt object, so we can only imagine what she and her pup went through. Sye lucked out when Robert volunteered to foster him, and the rest is beautiful history. "The most beautiful stories are not written in one day; they are built brick by brick, moment by moment, with you." Unknown Our 2009 Alumna Lily has passed away and lived a very long, happy and loved life. Before rescue, she survived being shot causing her to lose part of her tongue and a trauma cataract. Her poor body was riddled with gunshot wounds. Later, after finding her forever home, she overcame a mast cell tumor and a toe cancer and the following chemo and surgery. She was a true survivor! Her family said, “Sad news, on 4/27/2025, 2010 SEGSP Rescue alumni Lily crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the arms of her forever family. We were blessed to witness 15 years of her amazing 18 1/2 years of life, 7 of which was spent living in Japan. She was a perfect pooch and will be missed.”
"Tears are words that need to be shed. Without them, joy loses all its brilliance and sadness has no end." Paulo Coelho Our 2022 Alumna, Abby May, was blessed to spend two years with her family before she left this world. We received this beautiful tribute from her mom Christine:
“Just two days after her 10th birthday, only two short years ago, our gentle, anxious, sweet Abby May trotted into our lives and claimed a piece of our hearts forever. Abby was the nervous life of every party; no walk or errand was complete without strangers stopping to marvel at how beautiful and sweet she was. Before we met her, she’d already been passed from home to home, so we promised her we were her forever and she wasn’t going anywhere. We just didn’t realize how quickly “forever” could arrive. This week, we helped Abby cross the rainbow bridge while she lay in the sunshine, cradled between her two favorite people, Mom and Dad. We made the really hard decision to say our goodbyes peacefully at home, after her cancer metastasized and she lost the want to eat and eventually her strength to walk or leave her bed. Although our time was short, we had such a full 2 years together. I wanted to share just a little bit about our time and thank SEGSP and Denise for bringing her into our lives. In just over twenty-five months, we packed in a lifetime of memories. Abby’s happiest hours were our daily trips to the woods: sprinting ahead, never out of eyeshot, chasing every scent and imagined squirrel, always circling back to make sure her pack was near. She spent a blissful summer on Cape Cod, galloping the shoreline, eyeing horseshoe crabs with suspicion, and running from the tide. At home, she became Mom’s shadow during work calls and late-night newborn feedings. She loved her family and learned to tolerate her newest little human sister, Juliette, eventually. Abby perfected the art of the cuddle: nibbling Dad’s nose or aggressively nuzzling his face, the way GSPs do. Her little dances before a “hunt” for snacks and her soulful whines are etched permanently in our hearts. Thank you, SEGSP Rescue, for bringing the sweetest soul into our lives.” “Patience is the key to finding true love, for it will come into your life when the timing is perfect.” Unknown |
