Welcome to SEGSP rescue Cash! And thank you so much to his transporters who helped him get from Alabama to South Carolina (Wayne, Meredith, Glen, Amber and John)! And a special thank you to Jacqueline at the Andalusia Animal Shelter for contacting us about Cash.
Cash, about 1 year old, will need to be vetted while in rescue, including heartworm testing and neutering. He will need to have his temperament evaluated and some training for resource guarding and although he does well with female dogs, he is weary around male dogs. And of course, thank you, to Cash’s foster parents John and Linda. This is their 4th foster dog for SEGSP. John reports, “He’s an active boy and already knows sit (for a treat). He barks two times at new people then makes friends.” We can’t wait to hear more about Cash as he gets more comfortable. #WelcomeCash #GSPrescue #GSPoftheday Welcome to Rescue, Svetlana (aka Maisy, SC)! Maisy is an adorable, high-energy pup who’s getting ready to celebrate her very first birthday and we couldn’t be more excited to have her in SEGSP Rescue!
This sweet girl came from the shelter after being found as a stray. She absolutely loves other dogs and gets along beautifully with pups of all breeds and sizes. She’s currently soaking up life in her foster home, where she’s already started learning some basic commands in just a couple of weeks—smart and eager to please! Like any playful puppy, Maisy is still working through those excited little nips, but she’s all heart and full of potential. Her favorite hobbies include stealing shoes (you’ve been warned) and zooming around at full speed before crashing in for some snuggles. Personal space? Not quite her thing yet but honestly, that just adds to her charm. She’s a lovable, affectionate girl who wants to be right by your side (or on top of you) at all times. We’re so happy to have this fun, spirited girl safe in rescue. A special thank you to her foster mom Jessica! Stay tuned as Maisy continues to grow, learn, and get ready to find her perfect forever home! sc Dixie, our 2019 alum, is back in rescue due to her mom’s serious health challenges that now prevents her from caring for her beloved Dixie. She’s given so much of her time, love, and home to helping dogs in need over the years and now it’s our turn to help her by bringing Dixie into rescue and helping her find another forever home that will love her as much as her mom has for so many years.
Dixie is 10 years young, good around other dogs and is an all-around good citizen. And she’s adorable and loving too! A HUGE thank you to her foster dad John for taking Dixie into his home to help her adjust to her new situation and show her she is still loved. More to come about sweet Dixie… fl Say Hello to Boone (TN, 2 yo)!
Boone’s story started as a stray in Tennessee, but it’s clear this sweet boy hasn’t let that define him. We estimate he’s around 2 years old, and already he’s showing everyone what a wonderful dog he is. In just a few short days, Boone has proven to be an absolute gem. He has shown no aggression toward other dogs, is great with kids, and while he’s curious about cats, he hasn’t shown any aggression. He’s housebroken, knows how to sit, and has a calm, loving demeanor that makes him easy to fall for. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped Boone along the way, especially Kerrie, Rachel, and the Cupp family for stepping up to temporarily foster him and give him a safe, loving place to land. Boone will be neutered soon and get a full vet check (we’re all praying for no heartworms). Over the next few weeks, he’ll settle into rescue life while we continue learning more about him, including crate training and what will make him thrive in his forever home. So far, one thing is certain—Boone is a very good boy, and we can’t wait to watch his journey unfold. Stay tuned for updates on this handsome guy! tn Welcome to SEGSP, Harry (TN, 7 yo)! Harry may be almost 8 years old, but you’d never know it – the vet even said he hasn’t aged like it! This sweet boy is full of spunk, energy, and life. He’s healthy, happy, and ready to soak up every moment.
We are so grateful to first-time SEGSP fosters, the Dugans, and their GSP Kinley for welcoming Harry into their home. With plenty of land to explore, Kinley’s playful energy, and Harry’s love of fetch, we have a feeling he’ll slim down and stay in tip-top shape in no time! Harry is neutered, has a loving, loyal personality and has just the right amount of “Velcro dog” in him. He enjoys being near his people but is also happy to explore the yard and follow all the interesting scents. He loves people, does well with other dogs (though he’s more people-focused), and is even good with cats. Some of Harry’s favorite things: -Tennis balls (he’s a fetch pro—returns and drops like a champ!) - Exploring outside and chewing on sticks -Toys—though he’ll need tough ones indoors because he will try to destroy them -Being near his people (he thinks he is a lapdog) Harry is house trained, uses a doggie door, and is well behaved. He quickly learned outdoor boundaries, does great off leash, comes when called, and truly wants to please. He responds well to gentle corrections and is settling in beautifully. He’ll be in foster care for about a month before he begins searching for his forever home and we already know he’s going to make someone incredibly lucky. One of our favorite things about Harry is the way he is marked. It almost looks like he has the emoji on his side. We love it!! Welcome to rescue life, Harry - we’re so glad you’re here! tn Prayers and well wishes for foster Daisy (MS, 1 yo) as she goes in for her spay today. Daisy is healthy and she turns 1 year old on March 26th (Happy Birthday a little early)!
Her foster mom Erin reported, “Daisy is VERY loving and energetic. She wants to be in my lap at all times, and she makes sure that I don’t stop petting her. She loves to play fetch, and her favorite toys are the ones with no stuffing. Daisy has done very well with kennel training. We’re still working on the jumping when excited. She is the sweetest little cuddle bug” This is Erin’s first foster dog with SEGSP, and she’s done a great job! THANK YOU! More Daisy updates to come… ms Scout (AL, 1 yo) is definitely settled into his foster home like he was born there.
His foster mom Bethany reported, “He is learning how to play and run around. He does not like cats or loud sudden sounds. He is not fond of the neighbor’s grandchildren, but our neighbors aren’t either sooooooo. He does not sit... I am working with him but have never really seen him sit on his own, he’s either standing or down. Not sure if his tail hurt for so long he doesn’t like to.” Scout is healthy and neutered so just needs a couple more weeks of temperament evaluation before he’s ready to start his search for a forever home. THANK YOU Bethany for all you’re doing for this handsome boy! al Clark (TN) is thriving in his foster home, and his foster mom, Lyndsay, says he might just be the happiest dog around. He is a constant tail-wagger—seriously, that tail goes about a hundred miles an hour!
Clark continues to work on his manners and is making great progress. He sits on command every time and has even figured out that sometimes sitting on his own might convince someone to hand out a treat. Smart boy! He’s also learning to shake and improving every day. One of the best things about Clark is how connected he is to his people. The moment he hears his name, he comes running right away. When it’s time to play, Clark loves running the hills with his foster siblings and burning off energy outside. And if there’s a chance to go somewhere, he’s all in—Clark would happily ride in the car all day long. And according to Lyndsay, Clark has the softest coat she’s ever felt, making him just as perfect for cuddles as he is for adventures. Clark is a joyful, affectionate boy who would love a family of his own to share his happy tail wags and big personality. He will be making some decisions very soon about what he wants in his forever home, so please stay tuned. tn Welcome to our rescue Ms. Harper (aka Marigold, NC, 3 yo)! Sadly, Harper’s owner passed away, and she was put in the county shelter. But luckily the Second Chance Rescue found out about her and contacted SEGSP (thank you).
Her foster mom said, “She is decompressing and getting comfortable. She had a 2 hour nap in the crate with no issues. She ate well, had zero accidents in the house then went to bed in her crate about 9:45pm and was let out at 8:15am. She was all tail wags and no accidents overnight. She is an absolute sweetheart.” Ms. Harper is unfortunately heartworm positive so will be in rescue for at least 4 months while she heals. She’ll also need to be spayed and gain more weight (she wasn’t eating at the shelter). Harper will be going to see the vet soon, so we’ll have another update once she’s had her exam. Thank you so much to Amy for fostering Harper along her rescue journey. NC Hey SEGSP family, my name is Emma and I’d like your likes and hearts as I run for SEGSPs title for TN’s furever foster (i.e. I never leave SEGSP) and mascot (well, that’s because I’m so pretty).
About me: I turned 11 right before I joined SEGSP. I hide my age well, old family secret, so most people think I’m much younger and I do try to bring that puppy energy to my every day, it’s just in shorter stints. When I met the Kesslers I had a few “beauty marks” that had to go. My vet called them tumors, I just called them speed bumps because at least 1 or 2 slowed me down a bit. After two surgeries I am looking exceptional, if I do say so myself. My reports from the vet said otherwise. One of those beauty marks had some fingers that remained behind. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure I had another surgery in me. And though I’m not vain, the thought of losing my whole ear for something called “clean margins” that aren’t even guaranteed didn’t sound great. So I talked to the Kesslers about the possibility of staying with them forever. See my “beauty mark” is slow growing so I felt good about this wait and see option. They obviously love me and tell me I’m the best dog in the world while showering me with kisses and treats every day, so for them it was an easy yes. Next, I pitched my candidacy for the SEGSP furever TN mascot to the board and they agreed I’m a perfect candidate to represent SEGSP from my little corner of the world. Unfortunately soon after my endorsement I had a seizure. While this only cements my position as a furever foster, it did scare my loaner mom a lot. She told me I can’t leave her yet. She’s helped a lot of amazing dogs transition from a SEGSP foster dog to a cherished member of a family and SEGSP alum, but I’m lucky 13 so I should break her streak and join Riddick and Dom’s pack. I agreed to stay with her! PS this woman loves to hand out kisses and treats, so I’m super lucky. Thank you to everyone who liked all my updates since I joined the SEGSP community! I appreciated all your comments on my posts and well wishes. Though you might not see a lot of me going forward as I make space for other dogs who are seeking a home with someone in this amazing community, know I’m still here! Your prayers are always welcome as I battle two battles with my health and take on my forever roll as an SEGSP rep for the best furever foster in TN, so please keep them coming. I do have a favor or two to ask of you though… Please keep supporting SEGSP like you have been. I am so grateful for their help. Thanks to SEGSP and your donations one of those “beauty marks” I had was a fast-growing pre-cancerous tumor. My Dr got it all, yay! And YOU helped with my success story. Your donation covered my surgery, I am so grateful! Next, I’m pulling my parents (haha, I can say that now) out of the foster rotation for hopefully many years. If you’ve ever thought about opening up your home to foster a dog like me, let me tell you, the Kesslers gave me a chance at a better life! They said yes when I needed a spot and the timing was what I needed to beat something that tried to steal the best years of my life. Not every dog’s story is like mine, some dogs just need a safe place to land for a month or two and an advocate to help them find the family they need. If you are interested in being a foster family, please fill out the foster application with SEGSP. You’ll meet some amazing dogs, and who knows maybe you’ll be the forever home for one of the dogs you foster and you’ll get pulled from rotation like my family too! Special thanks to Mandy and Linda for all the phone calls and texts you got about me. I wish I could say I’m gonna give up my life of drama, but IDK. Thank you to the board for supporting me and believing in me. Anytime you need to post my pic on the website or Facebook to help spread the mission of SEGSP, I’m available. Alright that was a lot to say, I need a snack and a nap. I’ll check in with you beautiful people later! TN |
