We received a great update for Otis (FL, 1 yo, 60 lbs.) from his foster mom Connie:
“Otis is doing well. We are enjoying Otis very much.  We’ve known for a while he’ll be a foster fail.  Does he have a lot of energy and quirks - yes, but we knew we would set him up for success whether he would be ours or someone else’s.   He is smart - funny - and since it’s hot outside in Florida right now, I’ve doubled down on house manners and teaching things like “place” and thresholds.  Our outdoor leash walks are improving, but he continues to need guidance and work with bikes and dogs.  He had 2 longer crate days this week because of work commitments, but we had neighbors stop in to let him out and both gave him a great report. Likes: blueberries, plain Greek yogurt, chasing lizards, watching squirrels, de-squeaking and de-stuffing toys, dribbling water all over the kitchen floor.”

Hmmm… we had a feeling, but we’ll wait for the success story to be official before getting too excited.  Thank you to Connie and her family for fostering Otis along his puppy journey!

Progress with Coal (2 years old, in TN) continues to be exactly what we expected it would be - slow, steady, and measured in very small victories.

As a reminder, Coal came to rescue after spending his entire life living in an outdoor kennel. When he arrived, he was incredibly fearful and unsure of people, affection, and life inside a family environment. While we still can’t imagine everything he’s experienced, we know trust is not something that comes easily for him.

According to foster dad Will, there haven’t been any major milestones recently, but Coal continues to make small improvements every day. One thing that makes us smile is how comfortable he has become with Will’s pack of GSPs. He sticks close to them, enjoys exploring alongside them, and has proven that he doesn’t have any interest in running off. In fact, he’s gotten pretty good at coming when called…  Well, sort of.  As Will puts it, Coal comes when called, but never quite all the way, because someone might try to touch him! And honestly, that’s okay.
Coal is still learning that human hands can bring kindness, affection, and safety. Every time he chooses to come a little closer, he’s showing us that trust is slowly growing.

He’s also been having a great time exploring and playing in the river with the other dogs. Watching him splash around, investigate the world, and simply enjoy being a dog has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve also discovered that this boy appears to have a little prey drive, which isn’t surprising for a GSP!

For now, Coal’s journey remains one of patience. No dramatic breakthroughs. No overnight transformations. Just a scared dog taking tiny steps forward every day because a dedicated foster family and a wonderful pack of dogs are showing him what life can be.
And sometimes, those slow and steady victories are the sweetest ones of all. ​

Diesel's journey into rescue hasn't been an easy one. After arriving at SEGSP, he struggled with the transition and needed temporary boarding while we searched for the right foster home to help him feel safe and secure.

Moments like these remind us why our donors and supporters are so important. Rescue is full of unexpected expenses… boarding, emergency veterinary care, medications, and more. We never know when a dog will need extra help, but thanks to your generosity, we're able to say "yes" when they do.

What do we know about Diesel so far?  Diesel was surrendered to a shelter because his owner developed allergies. Unfortunately, these situations happen, but Diesel doesn't understand why his world suddenly changed. The move from home to shelter to rescue has been stressful and confusing for him.

What we do know is that beneath the uncertainty is a sweet, loving boy who just needs time, patience, and understanding. We're confident that once Diesel settles in, he'll become an incredible companion, adventure partner, and cherished member of a lucky family.

A very special thank you to Diesel's foster family for opening their hearts and home to him. Your patience, compassion, and commitment are giving him the chance to leave his past behind and look forward to a bright future.

We’re happy to share a fairly uneventful update on Emma—and in her case, that’s a very good thing.

We haven’t noticed any progression of her cancer recently, and she continues to enjoy her days with the Kesslers, her wonderful forever foster family.

One highlight from the past week was watching Emma play with her foster brother, Dom. Now, Emma has always been ball obsessed and continues to enjoy playing ball, but this was the most we’ve seen her actively play with one of her foster siblings since coming into rescue. The two of them romped around until they were both absolutely plum worn out, and it was such a joy to watch.

We remain incredibly grateful to the Kesslers for the love and care they give Emma every day. They have embraced her wholeheartedly and are making sure her days are filled with comfort, companionship, and plenty of opportunities to do the things she loves most.

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep Emma in your thoughts. We’re thankful for a quiet update and for every good day this sweet girl gets to enjoy.

Buddy, who came to rescue due to his mom’s serious health challenges that prevented her from caring for him, just celebrated his 12th birthday.

His mom Kacey sent us this update… “Buddy just celebrated his 12th birthday on Tuesday & enjoyed some yummy treats with Gretta (SEGSP Alum).  He’s recovering well from his neuter surgery last week & ready to not have to wear his surgery jammies :-)

Buddy is such a good boy, he loves to snuggle, gives the best kisses & is the most Velcro GSP we’ve had. He knows how to open our back doors & can tell time as well!  He always knows when it’s time to eat.  Buddy has never met a stranger & is always eager to say hello to any person or dog on our walks.  We know that his mom took really good care of him, as people can’t believe he’s 12 & he is so gentle with our 2 year old nephew, even though they are the same size.  We are so lucky to be chosen to foster Buddy & told him on his birthday that he gets to stay with us forever!”

What an awesome birthday gift Buddy received – YAY!  We can’t wait for the adoption to be official…
