Cholula & Sailor(black) (8 mo.) - Foster Dog News

Meet Cholula & Sailor (black), 2 special 8 mo. girls who entered rescue in GA last week. Our GA team were contacted by an advocate for a rural GA shelter who had been desperately trying to find a rescue for them. They spent 2 months at the shelter, their time had run out, and we brought them into rescue on what would have been their euthanasia day.

When they arrived at Jordan’s home (our GA Volunteer Coordinator), they were filthy, very thin, and terrified. Both weigh just 20 lbs. and based on the size of both parents, they should be 40 lbs. It took nearly 5 hours after arriving before they felt safe enough to move. Little by little, they learned what home life feels like. They discovered toys, playing, bath time (more times than they wanted), and slowly shed dirt, and shelter smell. They are little grub hounds, are putting on weight, love to cuddle, and did great at their Vet visit.

Cholula made it clear she is the ringleader. It took her 5 days to decide this rescue thing is okay, and once she did, the switch flipped. She is now giving us the full GSP puppy experience. She moved to her permanent foster home Friday and is settling in nicely. THANK YOU to Dayton & family (new GA fosters) for opening their home to her.

Sailor has warmed up too, but approaches life differently than her sister. She is timid and prefers tiptoeing into new things rather than full throttle. She is sweet, affectionate, and more comfortable each day. She is with Jordan a little longer so we can see how she does w/o Cholula, help her come out of her shell, and better understand what kind of foster home will help her thrive.

What stood out most about both girls is how sweet they are. After everything they’ve experienced, they want affection, to be close, to play, and they seem happy to simply be here. Their story could have ended differently on Aug. 21, instead, this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to watch them grow and become who they are supposed to be.
