Gordo (FL) foster dog news

Welcome to rescue Gordo!  We received this information from his foster mom Karen:

“He has been constantly sick since we got him and he’s quite a handful though very sweet. He is heartworm positive and we can’t even begin his treatment until we get whatever parasitic condition he has taken care of. …his health is tearing me apart. Gordo was a stray that was found in my backyard by my dog sitter. He was extremely underweight and unhealthy. He was roughly 40 pounds when he got here and he’s over 50 now. I do not believe he ever lived in a home at all. I would not call him feral because he’s very loving, but he does not have any training or social skills at all though he’s kind to everyone. He is currently undergoing his third treatment for parasites. He’s being treated for Giardia now and we’re hoping this takes care of things. As soon as that is done, he will start his heartworm treatment, and he is currently on Doxy. He’s most likely under a year old, unaltered and heartworm positive. He walks well on the leash but definitely needs training. Absolutely positively will not sit lol, but does know a few other commands. He is very stubborn. Absolute cuddle bug though. Dog friendly and cat friendly. Semi housebroken but, he has trouble holding his bowels with this infection. Once he’s cleared up, we shouldn’t see any more accidents.”
