Tucker (AL, about 7 yo) foster dog news

We have an exciting welcome today… Tucker (AL, about 7 yo) was found by a wonderful Good Samaritan, Kursten, last week who contacted SEGSP (thank you Kursten).
Tucker had a large deep gash on his hind leg.  Thankfully, our wonderful volunteer Veterinarian, Dr. Heather Gill, took Tucker in and started him on antibiotics and pain meds to get the tissue healthier.  A HUGE thank you to the transport team, Kursten, Dave and Marla for moving Tucker 4 hours south to Dr. Gill.

Here is her current update: “Tucker is doing great. Sweet boy, ok with other dogs so far but we haven’t tried cats yet. He is heartworm & hookworm positive. Yesterday I neutered him and was able to close the wound about 90% of the way. Once I removed the scarred tissue, there just wasn’t enough to close it all the way but I feel confident that if all the sutures hold, we will get that last section to heal over.  He did win some mild sedatives (trazodone) after he destroyed his first e collar in a matter of hours.” 

Thank you so much Dr. Gill!  Since Tucker is heartworm positive, he will need to be in rescue for at least 4 months.  Don’t worry, we’ll have lots of updates on this handsome boy so stay tuned…
