Barrett (aka Barry in AL) is READY to find a forever home! He is a classic GSP: silly, human-focused, and a very fast learner. Since arriving in his foster home from a shelter, he has had zero accidents in the house and has quickly settled into daily routines. He knows how to sit, lay down, and go to his bed or kennel when he gets a little rowdy and needs to slow down (although this is pretty rare as he is a mature 5-year-old). He’s very fond of his crate and will put himself to bed there at night and also rides silently in it in the car. However, he really doesn’t like to be left alone at home closed in his crate and will let you know it. He does perfectly well roaming the house with his foster siblings while his humans are away, and while he may relocate any shoes he finds left behind, he has not displayed any destructive behaviors.
He is still a bit unsure of what to think about his foster siblings at times and would make a great only dog or a second dog to a family willing to be patient with him as he continues to learn how to make canine friends. He loves sprinting around his fenced-in yard and as he has gotten more comfortable and curious, he has even taken the liberty of showing himself over the fence and around the neighborhood a bit (so he'll need some supervision while he gets used to his new yard). Since the addition of an e-collar to his training, his interest in these mini vacations has dropped off. He would thrive in a yard with a privacy fence or with a shorter fence and attentive training. He walks well on a leash and also makes an excellent jogging partner!
With his humans, he is a typical Velcro boy, always wanting to be kept in the loop with whatever is going on. He’s quiet and easy-going, only barking when he’s very startled. He is an expert cuddler and will join his people for a snuggle whenever he’s invited. Even when he isn’t invited, his big, pleading brown eyes can usually change their minds. He loves meeting new people and all of the compliments and pets he always gets for being such a gentle, handsome boy. He’s thrived during his transition to a home with clear rules for him to follow and is just looking for a permanent family of his own to keep company with his sweet personality!
