Biz, Fritz, Cash, Willow, Dottie, Saban and Nova are all gathered here to share updates with you this week! Dottie '19We haven’t heard from 2019 Alumna Dottie in a couple years, but we see she is just as spoiled as the day she came to rescue and was fostered by the Sasser family. Her forever mom Sherry says this is a typical nap pose for Dottie…poor girl LOL! Dottie came to rescue with 5 other GSPs that ended up in a shelter in NC for not being good hunters: Lady, Harnett (who sadly passed away last year), Harvey, Hector (now North) and Haynes (now Glover). SabanFrom Saban's mom Christine, "I just wanted to update you all that Saban is an absolute doll and he’s adjusting to life with his new GSP sister, Piper. Although she’s a lot younger (and a little on the wild side), he keeps up with her and is very patient with her juvenile ways. I can’t say thank you enough for bringing this sweet guy into our lives!" NovaFrom Nova's mom Ellen: Nova at high tide on Sullivan's Island. A quiet moment before she took off to play in the surf... Sh'es fascinated with the tidal pools and loves to run back and forth. Fritz '20, Cash '21 and Willow '22One of our longtime foster volunteers, Darrin, has some sad news that was tempered by some happy updates on 3 of the GSPs he fostered. From Darrin: It’s with sad news that our beloved senior crossed the rainbow bridge a few days ago. Although he didn’t come from SEGSP, he was a rescue from Kansas and he is the reason we started fostering. Remmi was the perfect foster brother for many of the rescues, Fritz, Cash, and Willow. Along with some others that didn’t stay as long, Colby, Archie, Fergie. On to some happier news I have alumni updates on 3 of the dogs that Darrin fostered: Fritz (2020 alum) is loving his dual state living situation. It’s about the time of year when he comes back to SC from CO. He enjoys all the freedom and adventures out west, then gets to kick up his feet for the rest of the year. Cash (2021 alum) is doing awesome in the mountains. Last year he saw his first snow. He is still living the puppy GSP life. The entire family adores him. Willow (2022 alum) made the furthest trek to Alabama and had some adjustments to be made. She fits in like a glove and is so spoiled. You can’t help but to smile when her butt wiggles. She also lives the adventurous life of hikes, boat rides, and ATV runs. Biz '10Our 2010 alumnus Biz (aka Biscuit, Bizzy) just turned 15! From his mom Kate, “He can’t hear much at all and doesn’t see well but he still dashes to guard the fence line to warn us of all passing dangers - trucks, bikes and butterflies! He‘s not eating much anymore and I worry if this means the end is near. As much trouble as he has been in the past, he has wrapped his soul about my heart and I shall be “undone” when he leaves. He and new hubby, Doug, are special pals. Keep those updates coming! Send a photo and short update to segspalumninews@gmail.com. We can't wait to hear from you!

We've got some great alumni updates for you this week on some of our more recent alumni. Check out below what's happening with Hank '22, Bandit '20, Walker '22, and Jäeger '21, ! Hank '22Our recent alum Hank is doing very well according to his new dad David. From David, “He is doing excellent! He is so happy living with us and goes everywhere with me. Thank you for choosing me. He is about as GSP as a GSP can be if you know what I mean. But he is really thriving in his new life. He goes to work with me each day and patrols the yard when we come home at night. I’ve never seen a dog that would rather run outside than get a treat. As long as he has his people and space to run, he is happy and behaves well. I’ve attached a couple of photos of him and want to thank SEGSP again for bringing him into our life.” Bandit '20 and Walker '22Check out alums Bandit 2020 and Walker 2022 who are doing amazing things these days. Bandit an already established Master Barn Hunter has now learned to Dock Dive which has to be his favorite thing ever. Right next to being a chewy.com model, he still loves to play dress up. Bandit earned his first dock diving title (DJ) in just five jumps, with a personal best of 14 feet 5 inches. Not too bad for a 7 year old. Bandit recently also earned a intermediate trick title (TKI) - Stealing Hearts Like A Bandit - CGC TKI ATT RATI RATS DJ Walker in his short six months since adoption has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen Title (CGC), passed the AKC Temperment Test which is also a title (ATT), earned his Novice Trick Title (TKN), learned to Barn Hunt adding a Novice Title (RATN), and also continuing agility and dock diving training. He is a busy boy which is best for that puppy brain of his. - Walker's 2 Fast 2 Furious CGC TKN ATT RATI RATN Both boys will be featured in an upcoming coffee table book "Tails of the Treasure Coast". The book is being produced by a local photographer as a fundraising effort for a local rescue. Jäeger '21From the Kurilla Family: "We just hit one year with our sweet Jäeger, and he is such a joy! He loves running around playing with his GSP brother Jax, and his Catahoula sister Kahlua. He has so much energy, and if you even say the B word (ball) he goes INSANE. We are so incredibly grateful for you all bringing him into our lives. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him making us laugh, constantly. Here are some pictures of him this past year! Thank you all again for ALL you do!" Thank you for continuing to send us updates! We LOVE hearing from you.
This month we celebrate 8 different pups and their one year gotcha anniversaries! Help us congratulate Willow, Minnie Pearl, Tucker, Jager, Maya, Sonny and Samuel on a year with their families. Check out the pictures of the fun they are having below. We need YOU! We are running low on alumni updates... please flood our inbox. Hearing stories and seeing pictures helps drive the rescue volunteers.
We have two lovely updates for you this week for Sunday Alum Day. Check out Edith story. She was one of our originals. And a super cute photo of Blue with a quick update. Both are doing great! EdithThis is Edith. She was one of the originals, a foster with founder Beth Cochran way back when. From her mom, Sue, "We believe she is now 14 years old. Edith was a true feral huntress found running loose in Tennessee. When outside, there was no controlling her. Not one, no-pulling apparatus ever worked, ever. Edith still, will pull to this day, if allowed. She was terrified of everything, everyone and hated loud noises. She was around 1 1/2-2 yrs old with at least a litter of puppies under her belt. David and I realized quickly that Edith was not going to be your typical pet material, and after making a few strides with her, my husband decided to my dismay, that we should keep her. I used to keep an upholstery needle and a spool of thread in my car because she would silently chew through my seatbelts. I had to replace the visor, two head rests, the steering wheel and the back of one seat. To be fair it was a 20 year old car, but still. I’m embarrassed to say, had not discovered putting a kennel in the car and putting the dog in it. She has howled and cried her way to every hike for years. Edith has taken a leap off one cliff and fallen off another. She has ruptured both of her Achilles at separate times. She is still hiking and did a thirteen miler last Sunday. Edith started “slowing” down last year. Not knowing these dogs stories, to me, is an opportunity to realize there is no point contemplating on what had happened to them 'before', but what we can do to make their lives better going forward, no matter how long it takes. Our Edith goes way back as far as alumni and in my opinion, should have an award as one of the craziest pointer ever." Blue '20Blue, our 2020 alum, formerly Albert, is no longer the skinny, malnourished pup he was when he arrived in rescue. He came to rescue as a stray in MS that was heartworm positive and soooo skinny. We’re so thankful his mom Missy has put some pounds on him... and that she shared this adorable photo with us! We've got tons of alumni updates today for Sunday Alum Day! Check out what Tucker, Belle, Chick, Grace, Scout and Samantha have all been up too!Tucker '20Tucker's mom sent in this photo and captioned it, "When there’s so much to keep an eye on that you have to rest while doing it!" Looking good Tucker! Grace '20 and Chick '21Grace (2020 alum) and Chick (2021 alum) LOVE their adventures. They go cruising in the convertible and for long walks on the beach. Rumor has it that their Mom, Cindy, also makes them special 'treats' to eat each day too. Sounds like they have hit the jackpot life in Florida! Belle '16Belle (2016 alum) is living her best life with her Mom Debby. "She was adopted from rescue at age 2 and is nows almost 8 yrs old. But not slowing down … she loves her grandkids & playmate dogs. She enjoys lake trail runs & wildlife watching as an avid lizard & butterfly hunter. She’s absolutely the sweetest!" Samantha '172017 Alumni Samantha (formerly OSHA) and her sister Talluhlah had a Fall photo shoot recently. Check out this adorable photo! Scout '17Scout '17 (formerly Onyx) loves to nap. His mom, Taylor, captioned this photo, "If this picture had sound it would be really loud snoring!" Thanks for another great week in rescue! Keep the updates coming. We love seeing (and hearing) about our alumni!
What a week it has been. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Florida that were hit the hardest by Hurricane Ian. But we know North and South Carolina are also struggling. We hope everyone is safe. GunnerGunner (formerly Gunny), 2019 alumnus, is doing great and loving life with his sister Jessie. When Gunner arrived in rescue, he had never been in a house played with a tennis ball or chewed on a bone. Looks like those days are LONG behind him now. PeachesPeaches, our senior gal from FL, is loving her forever home with the Sadauskas Family! They wrote in recently to say, "Peaches is having a good time. She just wanted to say hello and thanks for taking care of me before I found my final home." DaisyDaisy is a 2018 alumnae that foster failed with the Quarles family. And what a great 'fail' it has been. According to Dad Drew, "I’m forever grateful she found us through SEGSP. She’s ten soon and recently diagnosed with Cushings which she’s had for years but we could never quite pinpoint it. She’s much better with her meds to keep it under control but we just love her so much." Stay strong Daisy! That's a wrap for this week! We hope you enjoyed todays edition of Sunday Alum Day. We will be back next week with more updates.
After a few weeks hiatus (sorry!) WE ARE BACK! And here to celebrate with a new blog post for Sunday Alum Day. Remember to keep sending in your updates. Did you celebrate a milestone? Or have a fun dinner? Maybe you went to the dog park, or just snapped a cute photo. We want to hear it all! Shoot us a quick email to segspalumninews@gmail.com.We have updates on some of our alumnae today on the blog. Check out what is going on with Nova, Penny, Liesel and Millie! NovaNova, our 2020 alum, is helping her sister Ari (13 years old) wait for the results of her test for leishmaniasis (a parasitic disease spread by the bite of sand flies) and coping with the diagnosis of severe arthritis. Good girl Nova and we hope your sister is feeling better soon. MillieMillie, our 2017 alumna, recently celebrated her 11th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Millie! Her dad Greg and family rescued her when she was 6 1/2 years old and he said she walks 2 1/2+ miles every day and enjoys destroying toys. LOL! Penny (Harlequin)Vicki, a fabulous foster volunteer sent us this update: "I had the best surprise ever this weekend! Penny’s parents were going to a concert so they wanted to try Penny out with boarding at my house to see how she does just in case they ever needed to go out of town. I can’t brag on her parents enough for their patience, understanding and remarkable progress they have made with this amazing little girl. She is like a completely different dog and is the sweetest funniest little girl. She did absolutely amazing at my house, she sat on my lap, let touch her face and kiss her and even stopped hiding her feet. She loves all dogs and plays with them all perfectly. They were able to get her shots with a mobile vet that came to her at their house and she goes every where with them. She does amazing in public, loves breweries, hiking and car rides. She even went on date night with me and got her own cup of water and a doggie bag of treats and stuck her face in the bag to get the treats, those of you that knew Penny know how amazing this is for her. She walks on a gentle lead on her face and her parents can muzzle her now with no issues. I never in the time I fostered her got kisses from this little girl but this weekend I got them and I took full advantage of all the kisses she would give. THIS is why I foster!!!! To see a dog that was so broken, so untrusting even with me, thrive all because thanks to SEGSP we were able to take the time needed to find her the absolutely perfect home with the perfect family. She is exactly where she was meant to be and with a family that waited so long to find the perfect fit and even with all her issues they never questioned for one second that this little girl belonged with them. My heart is beyond full and there are no words that can express my gratitude to Allen & Heidi for giving their whole hearts to this lost soul. Thank you to the rescue and everyone that was a part of Penny’s journey as she has found her slice of doggie heaven right here on earth in Concord, NC." LieselFrom her foster mom (now sister!), Liz: "I wanted to send an update on Liesel for my parents! She’s had a great summer. We constantly marvel at how healthy and happy she is. I was her foster mom, so we saw how sick she was before and feel so thankful for her time with SEGSP. She loves to go swimming and trying to get her brother Henry to play with her. She stays very busy running around the yard and woods all day and has taken to bringing bird and rodent gifts to us in the house in her very sweet and gentle fashion lol :)" Thanks for all the updates! Keep them coming.
Happy Sunday Alum Day. This week we celebrated National Dog Day and National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Both very special in our hearts. GiaGia bottom left enjoyed a Sunday Family Funday with some GSP friends, including SEGSP Alum Sunny (right). She's a petite little gal at only around 35lbs and loves nothing more than chasing lizards and squirrels. HankHank, formerly Frank, is a 2022 alum from TN. He is settling into his new home nicely. He loves his whole family and in these pictures is particularly interested in Mom's ice cream! Who can blame him! That's it for today! Remember we rely on you all for updates on our alums. Hearing about forever homes is a big driver for our volunteers, so please share LOTS of stories and pictures. It is another great Sunday and we are excited to share some alumni updates with you. We've gotten so many recently. It's SO MUCH FUN to hear from you. Thank you. MillerMiller, formerly Jeffery in TN, just celebrated his 4th gotcha day with a trip to PetSmart for this new toy! Happy Gotcha Day Miller! CocoThe Paredes family sent us this update on sweet Coco. "Coco is doing amazing at home. Arena (my bossy and spoiled girl) now is sharing her bed with Coco which means a lot! Every morning Coco brings her toy and wakes us up. I didn’t know that I was getting an alarm clock, but we love her so much." Camo2021 alumnus, Camo, loves sitting on the porch at his forever home in TN. SunnyFrom Alum Sunny's mom Amanda, "Sunny Bunny on Sunday Family Fun Day. He sure loves his Dad!" Looks like the feeling is mutual! ColeThe Espinosa family sent us this lovely update on Cole: "I thought you might like an update on Cole (Colby). He is a strong, healthy and happy guy. He has put on some weight since we adopted him and his legs no longer shake. His coat is healthy and he gets more than his share of treats. He is still not a fan of other dogs but walks well on a leash. We appreciate the opportunity you gave us to make him a part of the family. This is definitely his home and he allows us to live in it. :) That's a wrap for this week's edition of Sunday Alum Day! Keep those updates coming. Remember, you can email a photo and quick update to segspalumninews@gmail.com. |
