Hey there stranger, my name's Bandit and I came to SEGSP after finding my way to a shelter several times and my owner told them to keep me. I'm in SE Florida, about 4-5 years old, recently neutered and healthy. My foster mom says I could use a little extra weight but that's not a problem cause I really like to eat.
I'm super smart like all GSPs and I know how to sit, stay, wait and come when called. I will even throw in a paw shake if you ask me (I know humans like that kind of stuff). I'm proud to say I'm 100% house and crate trained. Again – SUPER smart!
As with most GSP's, I can counter surf and have been known to check out the inside of a garbage can, especially if food is close to the top. I'm stealth, with no shame when it comes to treats or food and will do anything to get them. Hey, when you're on your own as long as I was you don't pass up any food! My favorite treats are bananas, apples and frozen blueberries. But I'm open to tasting new stuff too!
I will make an active family the perfect companion cause I love action and adventure. I do desire lots of love, attention and I really need a family that's willing to keep me active. A few times a week I visit local parks for leashed walks or runs and still have energy to keep going – so again, an active family is important. Having another dog to play with is great also...I even like little dogs but can play rough sometimes so they would have to be tough little dogs. Just NO cats for me, or birds, or hamsters, etc. I'm pretty independent so I could also be an only dog as long as you keep me busy. I need a family who is willing to schedule some outside activities for me cause I really need some mental and physical stimulation to stay healthy.
Caution - don't apply if you are not prepared for a potential escape artist. I just love adventure and it drives my foster mom crazy. I will run if given the chance, since I have a very high prey drive and will chase anything before realizing that I am LOST. My current foster home has a 6 foot wood privacy fence and I can climb that or take one giant leap (like most young GSPs can). So keep my mind occupied and my body tired and that won't be a problem. I currently wear a GPS and E-collar when outside just in case. I'll settle into my new home easily but I've been told those helpful aides should be used for my own safety.
I'm an amazing boy that learns quickly and loves deeply with all my heart. I will be by your side always. I'll just need time to understand how much I'll be loved in my new home and my new family will need to understand that I was born to HUNT and nothing else matters to me. Even all those commands that I know so well go out the window when I'm chasing prey. I'm an amazing boy who just needs some TLC. My foster family will demand nothing but the best for me cause they call me their special boy and they will want to meet my future family and see my new digs before I move there. They really love me 😊
If you want to meet me, and think you might be my future forever home, please complete an adoption application (if you haven't already) and email my foster mom Kim at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell her why you would be the perfect home for me.
Oh, and don't forget the rescue needs an adoption fee since they spend so much money on us pups. My fee is $375 and it includes my neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test, a microchip and preventative meds plus temperament testing. Phew – that's a lot...PLUS I'm really cute!
