Hi! My name is Merlin and I’m looking for my furever family! I am a sweet, very handsome young GSP mix (about 1 year old) currently hanging out in Atlanta, Georgia, with my foster family with two other GSPs.
I was a stray in South Georgia and came into rescue healthy and with some skills! I’ve gained some needed weight in rescue but am still only 45 lbs, so I have a lot of personality in a small package! I can sit and shake, and I have a strong “stay” game as well. I’m not too shabby on a leash either. Since I still have a bit of puppy in me, I am also learning not to jump and what is MY chew toy, and what isn’t… I do love having something to chew on though. I’m a pretty typical young GSP. I love humans and want to be by their side… and I might try to sleep on your pillow in the middle of the night. I’ll get in my crate if I have to, and I won't be destructive in there, just know I’m having some serious FOMO away from the action.
I play with the other pups in my house, and we chase and wrestle. Although I love my foster siblings (also GSPs!), I can be unsure of other dogs at first and very choosy about which dogs I will warm up to -- so dog parks really are not my thing, and I might even enjoy a home in which I have my humans all to myself. I’m not so into fetch, but I enjoy investigating the yard for new smells! Sometimes, when there is a good treat up for grabs, I might get into a disagreement with my housemates, but I’m working on it. I love zoomies, leash running, licking your face, and bird watching. When I am in my yard off leash with my foster family, I’m not really into going too far from them – when they call for me, I’m generally ready to return to their side.
I am looking for a family that wants to hang out and play with me. They should be into cuddling like I am and willing to teach me new things. I know I'm going to gain some sweet skills. I love truck rides and do fine in new places. I’d probably be a great running partner. I was cat tested at my shelter and told I would likely be fine in a home with cats. (I wanted no part of being near the cats in the cat room at the shelter, so the shelter thinks I may have received a solid correction at some point from a cat.) I am mostly cool with kids, but I get excited and might accidentally knock a little one down, so no children under age 6 for me. Again, I’ve got some puppy in me still!
