My name is Scout and I’m a 5 year old, sweet, loving teddy bear that wants to be your snuggle buddy. I’m get along great with other dogs (not cats) and really like having a buddy to play with and keep me company. I am what they call a “velcro dog” (like most GSPs) and need to be with my people all the time so a family with a “stay at home” person would be best for me. I would love to have a family that is active that will include me in all their activities. I walk well on a leash, know some basic commands, ride calmly in the car and want to go with you wherever you go.
I have separation anxiety but have come a long way since I first came into rescue! Loud noises like thunderstorms and fireworks really scare me, and if nobody is home to comfort me, I get so frantic I sometimes destroy things. I don’t like crates either because I’ve spent too much time in them and they just add to my anxiety.
My foster mom discovered that activities that increase my mental stimulation like hunting lizards and chipmunks, learning to play new games using scent, going for walks around town or hiking on trails seem to really help reduce my anxiety. Engaging my brain seems to help me decompress and become more emotionally balanced and better able to deal with stress and anxiety. The successful home for me will be one where I will do more than go out in the yard to chase the ball every day. I need a job or a purpose to direct my energy and intelligence like doing nose work, agility, flyball, obedience work, or learning to be a farm dog.
Overall, I am a good boy with lots of love and companionship to offer. I really want a family to love me (I’m a great snuggler) and give me the attention that I need.
