SEGSP Rescue Dogs Ready for Adoption
Foster Chloe (NC) has had a shady past, but her golden years are bright. This active senior is pure joy. We’ve learned she’s likely 13 years old, and although she enjoys a good nap (and who doesn’t?), she has a zest for life that will make you smile every day.
With a full tail she’s not afraid to use, Chloe is always wagging it happily, thumping it loudly when she gets excited. She loves to go for walks and she’s an excellent passenger in the car, sitting quietly in her seat (until she spots something of interest and barks). She’s gained some healthy weight and is playful, quirky, and strong. She politely sits and gives a dainty paw for treats. She loves stuffies and squeakies and balls and will drop anything at your feet and step back, not-so-subtlety hinting so you’ll toss it for her. She’s a bit of talker too, grumbling and mumbling as she gets comfy. She will wait patiently in her kennel while meals are prepared and has no problem eating with the door closed. Latching the door is a different story; Chloe has separation anxiety and does not like to be left alone. She broke out of her crate (how is still a mystery) but doesn’t destroy anything - just barks until you come back. She’s a bit reactive to the other dogs we pass by, and though she likes to appear tough, she’s just a little old lady doing her best to save us from potential danger. With proper introductions, she’s been fine with the other dogs we’ve met. We had one small squabble over a highly desirable toy…because, you know, it was the only toy in the house... Her hearing is ‘selective,’ and I think she works her senior status to her advantage. It’s hard not to laugh when she looks directly at you…then walks away pretending not to have heard a word. She naps hard and doesn’t always hear you approach. She does usually need a potty break in the middle of the night, but she’s quick and comes right back inside and settles back to sleep. She loves to walk and we’re using the gentle leader to work on her pulling, but I’ve realized she likes to have something to carry in her mouth. I usually bring a ball or a toy, but she’s happy to pick something up along the way…a shell, a stick, a crab, and much to their chagrin, an unsuspecting frog or two. She has a prey drive for lizards and birds, a blowing leaf, sea foam, and the aforementioned frogs that haven’t learned but she’s made peace with the resident cat, even if she gives her a little chase every now and then. Sweet Chloe would be a wonderful companion to someone who can offer her a routine, lots of love, and all the comfort she deserves. She’s surely not as active as she once was - but don’t tell her that! Who’s going to be lucky enough to keep up with this senior gal? Chloe is UTD on vaccines, spayed and microchipped so her adoption fee is $187. If interested in Chloe, please email her foster mom Jackie at [email protected] and fill out an adoption application. |
