SEGSP Rescue Dogs Ready for Adoption
Hello, everybody! My name is George (NC), and I’m looking for my forever person or people! If you can appreciate that GREAT things come in small packages, then I might be the guy for you.
Although I look like a big guy in photos (check out my fantastic chunky paws and lovely full tail), I’m actually a scaled-down (about 40-ish pounds) smaller fella, and I’d love nothing more than spending one-on-one time with a special person I can call my very own. I love car rides, walking nicely at “heel,” leaning my body against you when I’m getting petted – then rolling around on you when I’m *really* getting petted. I’ve been spending some time with a professional trainer who describes me as a “phenomenal” boy who loves to please and is very good at staying in “place” when I’m told. I’m also very good with other dogs – including during open play sessions with groups of dogs – but I also like quiet time and would probably fare just fine as an only dog. Cats, for some reason, are not particularly fond of me, and I really don’t understand it – I’m always up for the challenge of chasing them and pouncing on them; I think it’s great fun, but any cat that I’ve encountered didn’t seem to agree. I’m perfectly content in a crate when alone in the house, but I’m not destructive if you would rather leave me loose instead – I won’t even counter-surf, I promise! My trainer says I can be shy at first when meeting new people but I warm up quickly, but I’m not very confident around children and do not like loud noises. I love attention and can be a little bossy when I feel I’m ready for more. (My foster liaison says that makes me an adorable “love bully” – what can I say, when I want to give you hugs, I want to make sure you know it and reciprocate!) Also, I take my door sentry duties very seriously, so you’ll never have to worry about missing an Amazon delivery ever again – I’m always at the ready to notify you with a howl if I hear the doorbell. Like any GSP, I’d love a fenced yard so I can go out and explore, but, honestly, my favorite outdoor activity would involve you being right there with me, so I’m really not all that much interested in playing in your yard unless you’re in it! Also, when I’m really excited and playful, I can be a little talkative, so I hope you find my sweet voice adorable and would enjoy playtimes with one very exuberant sidekick. I think the best fit for me would be an adult household with a somewhat mellow and predictable routine, with someone who wants to take me along for rides and walks – I just love to go places. I’ll also need someone who can continue with me what I learned in training and can establish boundaries with me in the house and give me little jobs (like “go to place”) and some structure to my day so I know the difference between “my” places and “yours.” One thing that I’ve been working on is not jumping up on people to greet them (what can I say, I get excited about seeing the ones I love), so I’d like a home that will be patient with me and help me continue to work on that. Due to my tendency to jump up and sometimes when I am excited and want to play, and due to my tense and anxious body language around children, my foster liaison thinks I’ll be best set-up for success in a home without children. I’m about 4 years old, healthy, neutered, and located in Hickory, NC, and my adoption fee is $375. If you’d like to know more about me, please fill out an adoption application and reach out to my foster liaison, Cathy, at segsp.cathy@gmail.com. Comments are closed.
