Meet Sabal Mae, a 5-year-old spayed female German Shorthaired Pointer with a gentle soul and a calm, loving nature . Sabal weighs approximately 50 lbs and is described as exceptionally sweet, well-mannered, and deeply affectionate. She is a GSP who is notably calm for her breed and forms strong bonds with her people, especially her primary female handler. Sabal absolutely adores children particularly my 3-year-old son and enjoys simple pleasures like family time and trips to Starbucks .
Why Sabal Needs a New Home: Due to increased anxiety over the past year that has resulted in aggression toward small dogs, it has become clear that Sabal can no longer safely remain in a home with small dogs. She currently lives with dachshunds and was previously fine with them, but the first bite incident occurred in July 2025. Extensive efforts have been made, including behavior modification training and anxiety medication, but despite these measures, the situation has not improved. This decision has been made with great care and love, with Sabal’s best interest at heart.
Personality & Lifestyle: Sabal is affectionate, loyal, and people-focused . She can be timid at first, but warms up quickly once she feels safe. She thrives in calm, predictable environments and enjoys being close to her humans. While she does have some anxiety, she is not destructive and is able to be left out of the crate during the day. She currently sleeps in a crate at night and does very well with that routine. Her only quirky habit is a dislike for throw pillows on the couch.
Training & Behavior: Sabal is house- and crate-trained and knows basic commands. She has good recall with her primary handler and has completed behavior modification training within the last six months. She has a disclosed bite history involving small dogs only and must be placed in a home without small dogs. She has no history of aggression toward people or children.
Other Animals & Kids: Sabal does wonderfully with children  and would be a great family dog. She does not do well with small dogs and must be the only dog, or possibly placed with a compatible, experienced handler and careful introductions. Her compatibility with cats or farm animals is unknown.
Medical Information: Sabal is spayed, heartworm negative , and up to date on vaccinations. She is currently on anxiety medication twice daily, which may be reduced or discontinued in the right environment under veterinary guidance. Veterinary records will be provided from Lakeside Animal Hospital in Moncks Corner, SC.
Ideal Home: Sabal would do best in a patient, loving home without small dogs, where she is given time to decompress and adjust. She would thrive with calm adopters who understand anxiety and can provide consistency, reassurance, and structure . A home with children is welcome, and she would benefit from a stable environment where she can feel secure and loved.
If you or someone you know may be the perfect fit for Sabal Mae, please reach out to Kerri Dawson at  843-729-7823 There is no rehoming fee; instead, a donation to the rescue is requested. Sabal’s crate, bowls, harness, puzzles, and other essentials will go with her. The hope is to find Sabal a forever home where she will be understood, cherished, and able to truly thrive.
