❤️ Meet Sooty — Sweet, Energetic 2-Year-Old GSP/Lab Mix Looking for His Forever Home
📍 Durham, North Carolina
🐾 GSP / Black Lab Mix | Male | 2 years old | 75 lbs | Neutered
Sooty is a handsome, energetic, social boy looking for a new home due to his owner’s medical circumstances. He is a people-loving dog who enjoys being around other dogs and would love a family who can give him the exercise, companionship, and space he needs to thrive.
🐶 About Sooty
  • 2 years old
  • 75 lbs
  • Male
  • Neutered
  • GSP / Black Lab mix
  • High-energy, social, and curious
  • Loves people
  • Gets along with other dogs

  • Crate-trained
  • Knows sit, lay down, off, back up, out, leave it, and this way
  • No bite history
  • No behavioral challenges reported
  • Heartworm negative
  • No medical issues requiring medication
🏡 Sooty's Ideal Home
Sooty would do best with a securely fenced yard where he can run and burn off some of his energy. He is not currently a good candidate for long walks on leash, so having a safe area for exercise is especially important.
Sooty plays hard with other dogs. If he goes to a home with another dog, a dog of comparable size and play style would be the best match, as his energetic play could potentially injure a smaller dog.
He has not been tested with cats or farm animals, so those situations are unknown.
❤️ Sooty's Special Gift
Sooty has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to alert his owner when her other dog, Annie, was experiencing medical problems.
When Sooty was about 4–5 months old, he began alerting his owner whenever Annie had a seizure—even when the dogs were crated or it happened during the night. Later, Sooty began alerting his owner to Annie even when she wasn't visibly having a seizure.
His owner eventually discovered a lump on Annie's neck during a veterinary visit. Annie was subsequently diagnosed with cancer and is now in the final stage of her life.
While Sooty's behavior shouldn't be considered a trained medical-alert service, his sensitivity to Annie and his close bond with her have been a very meaningful part of his story.
🏠 What Sooty Needs
Sooty is looking for an active, loving home with:
  • A secure fenced yard
  • Plenty of daily exercise and activity
  • People who enjoy an energetic, social dog
  • Ideally, another medium-to-large dog with a compatible play style
  • Continued training and positive outlets for his energy
Sooty is currently not up to date on vaccinations, although he received his initial vaccines. His owner is willing to provide veterinary records.
📍 Located in Durham, NC
