Meet Hardy, a handsome 20-month-old, 50-pound German Shorthaired Pointer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix who is searching for a loving home where he can truly thrive.
Hardy is an affectionate, goofy, happy boy who absolutely adores his people. He is the definition of a Velcro dog—whether you're heading out for an adventure, playing in the yard, or relaxing on the couch, Hardy wants nothing more than to be by your side. He has a playful spirit, a gentle heart, and a wonderful ability to settle down and relax after exercise and fun.
His family loves him deeply and has made the difficult decision to rehome him because of his separation anxiety, which is triggered when he is left alone for extended periods. They have worked closely with their veterinarian and a professional trainer, increased his exercise, and followed a behavior-modification plan. Hardy has made tremendous progress, but his needs are greater than his family's work schedules can accommodate. They are committed to finding him a home that is better suited to helping him succeed.
Hardy has completed both behavioral and obedience training and recently achieved a major milestone by passing his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test on August 14, 2026. He is house-trained, crate-trained, sleeps comfortably in his crate at night, knows basic obedience commands, has good recall, and is eager to learn. He is a smart dog who genuinely enjoys working with his people.
Hardy has never shown aggression toward people, children, or other dogs and has had positive interactions with both. While he became overstimulated in large, busy daycare settings, his trainer believes he would do best with calmer social opportunities and smaller groups of dogs. He is skittish around cats and has not been tested with farm animals.
In addition to his separation anxiety, Hardy can occasionally become overstimulated in very busy environments. Otherwise, he is a loving, friendly companion who simply wants to be included in family life.
Hardy is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on his vaccinations, including Rabies, DHPP, Leptospirosis, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza. He does have allergies that are successfully managed with Apoquel. Veterinary records are available for serious applicants.
🏡 Hardy's ideal home would be one where someone is home much of the day and can provide the companionship he craves. He would make an excellent companion for an active individual, couple, or family who enjoys walks, outdoor activities, continued training, and having a dog fully involved in daily life. A fenced yard or access to outdoor space would be a wonderful bonus.
His family describes him as a truly special dog who brings joy, laughter, and love everywhere he goes. They are incredibly proud of how hard he has worked and how much progress he has made. Their greatest hope is to find a family who will cherish him and give him the consistent companionship he needs to continue thriving.
