Meet Jet, a handsome black German Shorthaired Pointer mix with a loving personality and a heart full of loyalty. After being found abandoned in a neighborhood in Semmes, Alabama around May 2026, Jet has shown just how resilient and affectionate he is. Now he's ready to find a family who will love him forever.
Jet is a neutered male, weighs approximately 49 pounds, and although his exact age is unknown, he is an active, healthy dog who loves spending time with his people. He is currently heartworm positive and has had his 3rd treatment on July 10th. He will receive his required rabies vaccination before adoption, and veterinary records are available through his veterinarian.
When Jet was first rescued, he was extremely withdrawn and shut down. His caregivers initially wondered if he might be deaf because he completely tuned everyone out. With patience, consistency, and kindness, he has blossomed into a happy, engaged dog who has learned his new name and eagerly comes when called. An e-collar tone was initially used to teach recall, but he now responds reliably to his name without it—proving he definitely isn't deaf!
Jet continues to make wonderful progress every day. At first he had no interest in toys, but recently he discovered the joy of chasing a ball. He started by tossing it into the air himself and has now begun bringing it back, showing his playful side is finally emerging. As he's gained confidence, his natural hunting instincts have also become more apparent. He now points frequently and absolutely loves hunting squirrels.
Jet is the kind of dog who wants to be wherever you are. Whether you're gardening, working around the property, or simply enjoying the outdoors, he'll happily stay by your side. He loves to run, explore, and help with chores, yet always keeps an eye on his favorite people. Even without a fenced yard, he stays close to his person and prefers to come inside whenever they do.
He is crate trained, knows the "sit" command, walks nicely on a leash, and is easy to handle. He also tolerates having his nails trimmed with a Dremel remarkably well. Jet is eager to please and continues learning as he gains confidence.
Jet is still adjusting to life as a house dog and will need a family committed to continuing his training. Inside the home, he is very energetic and easily overstimulated. He can become excited enough to jump, investigate countertops for food, and has not yet mastered settling indoors. Because of this, he currently spends much of his downtime in a crate and is gradually learning appropriate house manners with short supervised sessions. His foster family believes he simply hasn't had much previous training and is making steady progress.
Jet forms incredibly strong bonds with his people. He loves deeply and wants to be involved in everything they do. He can become vocal when separated from the person he's attached to, often crying when they leave the room. He would thrive with a family that has the time to continue building his confidence and channeling his energy through exercise, training, and companionship.
Jet gets along well with children, other dogs, and most farm animals, but he has a strong prey drive and cannot live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. Chasing squirrels and hunting rats and armadillos are among his favorite activities.
Aside from his prey drive and his need for continued house training, Jet has no known behavioral issues and no bite history. He is a genuinely sweet dog who simply needs an active home willing to continue the work that's already helping him flourish.
Jet's ideal home includes:

• An active individual or family familiar with sporting breeds
• A securely fenced yard or a property where he can safely exercise (or an owner committed to appropriate containment and recall training)
• No cats, chickens, or other small animals
• Someone who enjoys spending time outdoors and can continue his training and confidence-building
• A family looking for a loyal companion who wants to be by their side

His caregiver shares:
"He is very sweet, good in the crate, and only wants to be outside if you are outside too. He stays close by while doing chores or gardening and keeps himself busy chasing squirrels and hunting rats. He has come so far since we found him and is learning something new every day. I would keep him if he was okay with cats!"
Jet has already overcome so much. With continued guidance, patience, and an active lifestyle, this affectionate boy has all the makings of an incredible lifelong companion.
