Meet Maisie — A Big, Goofy Baby Looking for a Home of Her Own 💛
Meet Maisie, a beautiful 5-year-old, approximately 80-pound German Shorthaired Pointer/Golden Retriever mix in Dothan, Alabama.
Maisie is a big goofy baby who still thinks she's a 5-pound lap dog! She loves snuggling, nuzzling her people, neck and ear scratches, cheese, and peanut butter crackers. She has a hilarious approach to fetch—she thinks the game is for you to chase her while she runs away with the ball! She is also a wonderful guard dog and is very devoted to her people.
Maisie is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows basic commands including sit, lay down, and wait. She is a sensitive girl who responds best to patient, gentle handling and positive reinforcement.
Maisie's ideal home will be without other pets. She has repeatedly had conflicts with the two smaller dogs in her current home and has shown aggression toward them, including food and toy-related aggression. Because of this history, she needs to be the only pet in the household. She has not been around cats or farm animals, so those environments would not be recommended.
Maisie is best suited for a home with older children or adults who understand that she needs appropriate boundaries and management around food and toys. She has not had much exposure to children beyond her current family's son.
She does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks, and her family describes her as a very sensitive dog. She would benefit from a calm, understanding home that will give her time to feel secure.
Maisie has no known ongoing medical conditions. She had a yeast infection last year that was successfully treated. She is currently heartworm negative. Her vaccinations are not current, but veterinary records can be provided.
⚠️ Bite history disclosure: Maisie did accidentally bite her owner's mother during an incident involving the other dog. Her owner reports that the bite occurred when her mother was attempting to separate Maisie from the other dog and placed her hand near/in Maisie's mouth..
Maisie isn't the right dog for every home—but for the right person, she could be an incredibly loving, goofy, loyal companion. She deserves a home where she can be the center of attention, relax without the stress of other pets, and receive the love and patience she craves. 💛
