Henry - Chatham Co, NC

12/16/2020

Picture
Henry is looking for a new home. He is 7 years young (perfect age), loves attention and praise from children, both small and large. He lives with two young toddler boys who he is nearly always in close contact with. He is a gentle playmate.  Henry has vacationed with a family friend a few times who has multiple indoor cats and he becomes assimilated to them easily.

Henry is great with other dogs and playing with dogs his size is such a great pastime! Henry has lived with a 15-pound rat terrier his entire life and they are the best of friends. Henry also plays well with other small dogs and puppies. Henry guards food and therefore must be fed separated from other dogs.  He does not like to be touched while he eats so children should not be near his feeding area. Henry also guards his favorite bones on occasion if he is chewing them in his dog bed.

Henry can jump over baby gates so needs a fenced yard (either physical or an e-fence). Henry is well versed in the limitations of underground, "invisible", fencing. Henry will only dig when wishing to cool off on cool soil - he does not dig to escape.

Henry walks well on a flexi-tape leash, a 6-foot leash, or a check cord. He is a fantastic running buddy for anyone who runs for sport. He is a playful, energetic, quintessential GSP.  He can be a couch potato if exercised enough, too. He loves playing chase and tag. He is praise driven and has a healthy prey drive. He enjoys running in fields and chasing birds. Henry enjoys spending time with other dogs and always has a close bond with whichever adults are present in his care.

Henry is fully crate trained. We do not use his crate for punishments, only sleeping or his containment when he is home alone. Henry is house trained (he has never been home alone outside his crate). He knows many basic commands and is highly obedient when praised. He did almost two years of obedience training paired with some agility while a puppy. Henry has zero health issues and is up to date on all vaccines (last negative HW test was March 2020). He is neutered but not microchipped.

Henry's perfect home would be a busy, safe atmosphere such as a farm or ranch. He desires to live with other dogs he can play with. Just like any typical GSP, he requires a lot of daily exercise and constant attention. His perfect new home would include friendly people who do not mind being followed around as they go about their day. Henry is always go-go-go and loves to be talked to and touched. If allowed/given permission, he can be a cuddler both on the couch or in your bed (but will also sleep overnight in his crate as he does now if his owners choose).
He loves being able to run free in a field with a human partner on foot, on UTV, or on horseback aiding him moving forward and continuing his love of chasing birds. Henry earned his AKC Junior Hunter title in 2015 but has not been on birds since then. He has not been trained to "honor" or "retrieve" since we did not take the opportunity to teach those methods yet. We have every faith he could be a hunting companion. Henry will respond to a call back whistle reliably in the field.
Henry does not like spending a lot of time at home. He does not like being alone or spending more than the overnight in his crate. Although he tolerates it well now, we can tell he wants more out of life than to sit and relax through his days.

If you’re interested in adopting Henry, please contact his mom Celeste at celestehelewski@gmail.com or 402-677-5336
Note: the owner is requesting a $150 rehoming fee.
