Thank you to those of you who have expressed interest in adopting Peppers in TN. He has developed a slight limp and his foster mom is going to have him checked out so we can ensure he’s feeling his best. We will pause application reviews for now and keep you posted.
Hey guys! My name is Peppers and I’m a healthy, energetic, & smart 5-year-old GSP. Have you heard the term “turn-key GSP”? Well, they tell me that’s what I am. It must be a good thing, because my foster family treats me like a king!
My former family was awesome, but due to unexpected family issues, they were unable to spend enough time with me. I was surrendered to SEGSP because they loved me so much.
My foster family has 3 GSPs and I get along great with all of them, especially the cute little girl named Charleigh. They tell me we make a cute couple and I’m pretty sure we are going steady, whatever that means. The other 2 GSPs are boys (Dutch & Jake) and they are great pals, too. We even had a slumber party in the family room one night because the air conditioner upstairs was broken. Wow, that was such fun and I got to sleep on the couch! Normally, I sleep on a pillow in the master bedroom and I don’t make a peep until it is time to get up. They seem really happy about that.
Mealtime is not a problem, either, because I am not food aggressive. But, I do like to eat, so they tell me I need to slow down a little. My foster family got me a maze bowl and that has slowed me down quite a bit. When I eat treats, I get excited and take it too quick, so my foster family is working with me on that and they say I am doing much better. They have a large fenced in backyard, which is great because I still have a lot of GSP energy! My perfect forever family would give me lots and lots of exercise. And because I have typical GSP energy, if the family has children, they would need to be at least six.
Another one of my favorite things is swimming! I just love it! We go to a large property with a pond several times a week and this is great exercise. It is also a great place to hunt for critters and birds of all kinds. I especially like to chase the geese, but so far I’ve not been able to catch one. They put an e-collar on me and that keeps me where they want me with just a gentle vibration. My recall without the e-collar is not the best, but I’m working on it. Also, the car ride to the pond is great because I love to ride!
When I was about 2 years old, I went to professional obedience training. They taught me to heel, stay, down, sit, shake and probably some other stuff. I still remember most of it.
My foster family says I am very vocal, and if that means I like to bark, then ok….that’s true. If I get annoying, they have a bark collar that quiets me down. It is just a gentle vibration when I bark, but I get the message, just like with the e-collar. It must be a GSP thing because my foster brothers occasionally wear the bark collar, too.
If I could find a forever family that can spend a lot of quality time with me, that would be awesome. It would be great to have someone home most of the time and a large fenced in backyard. I never try to jump the fence or dig under, though I have been known to dig or hunt for a mole or two if I've not gotten enough exercise. A sibling or two would be great, especially if my people are away for a long time. I would make a good only child if I had my people around me most of the time.
Have you heard of a Velcro dog? Well, that would be me! I will follow you all around the house just to be close to you. Snuggling is one of my favorite things. I do not bother anything in the house and even leave things on the counter alone (for the most part). Being in a crate is OK, but it’s not my favorite thing.
My foster family does not have a cat, so I’m not sure how I would feel about a feline sibling. But, they have lots of extended family and I have met most of them and they are the best! Did I say I love people?
So, just to recap, I am looking for a loving forever family that has a fenced back yard, will spend lots of time with me, take me on adventures and enjoy lots of snuggles. A sibling or two, or three, would be a plus. I’m very obedient and eager to learn.
I am up to date on my vaccines, microchipped and neutered, so my adoption fee is $375. I'm so excited to meet my forever family and I hope you're excited to meet me, too! If you're interested in being considered, please fill out an adoption application and email my foster mom, Sharon. That way, she will know to pull your application and review it. I can't wait for us to find each other!
