Nelly has received the best Christmas present, a forever home where she’s already wrapped her dad around her paw! When her foster family began receiving applications for potential adopters, they quickly learned what a tough decision it was going to be because there were so many great families.  But after carefully considering each one, they selected Nelly’s new dad, Houston.

From Anna, Nelly’s foster mom, “When we first started this process with Nell we created a checklist for her ‘dream home.’ We had so many amazing applicants but Houston checked each item on our list, and then some! We wanted a home where Nell would be included in any and all adventures and she could be their constant side kick. She found that with Houston and we can’t wait to see the adventures they go on!”

And from Houston, Nelly’s new dad, “To start, Nell has adjusted almost instantly and already has her spot on the bed at night. In one day of working with her, she's no longer straining on the leash or lunging forward. She sits on command, most of the time, and will let me walk a full 360 around her with her full attention on me. We're now working on coming when called, tethered of course.

I've had the opportunity to hunt with multiple GSPs for pheasant, dove and quail. And have always wanted one of my own to be able to go out whenever we wanted and work a field. Funny enough, my brother in law who owns a GSP (a couch potato) would always send me GSP rescue links. And then he sent me Nell. Something said go for it. I know she will be alot of work as I can tell she's not had the human interaction a 3 year old should have. Words like treat, ball, car mean nothing to her. We are basically starting from the beginning, and that's how a great bond is built. We have to move quickly as our first hunt together is scheduled for 1/3/23: pheasants in Kansas.”

Houston, what a wonderful start. And it sounds like you have the perfect and patient attitude needed to allow Nell to learn and to trust.  We can’t wait for more updates about your special girl. Congratulations to you both!
