SEGSP Rescue Dogs Ready for Adoption
REVIEWING APPLICATIONSMiss Tasha is a vibrant young GSP estimated to be around 1 year. Sadly, we have no backstory on her - only that she and her sister Tess were found on the side of the road in the low country. Thankfully a Good Samaritan picked them up and turned them in to their local shelter.
Once in her foster environment, it became evident that Tasha previously had to hold her own and take charge as a means of survival. After a few squabbles with the resident pups and some extended crate time, she relaxed and settled nicely into her foster home. She now likes to groom her foster sisters, lightly munching on them, and licking their ears. Much to her foster momma’s surprise, Tasha was crate-trained and housebroken with minimal guidance. She is extremely intelligent, naturally intuitive, and a quick learner – especially when rewarded with her favorite Marrobone treats. She sleeps very comfortably in her crate for 8-9 hours if given a last potty break before bed. She will whine if she needs a very rare, middle-of-the-night potty break. Sometimes her foster momma even catches her napping or taking her chewy bone into her crate during the day as her safe spot. She has access all day to the outdoors via two doggie doors, so she will need to be shown in her new home how to request potty breaks when needed. She is a typical Velcro GSP and wants to be near her person 24/7. Tasha loves to be thrown a tennis ball and loves her stuffy toys, however, she has a firm belief that all stuffing must be removed from them ASAP. She is full of the normal puppy energy and occasionally takes off with a sock or shoe, but she has quickly learned which basket is “hers” and which baskets are off-limits. She is a work in progress on leash walks but improving every day. She tends to bark at people and other dogs but is easily redirected with a training collar. She has not been cat-tested in her foster environment, but she is very birdy and gives the neighborhood squirrels a good chase. She does well with children over the age of six. Introductions to new people should be controlled until she has broken her “jumping up” habit. Her foster momma is using the “DOWN” command and placing her in the crate if she gets a little too excited with visitors. Tasha is extremely affectionate and would be great as a solo dog or with mild-tempered fur siblings. If her humans are touching her – she is paralyzed with joy and will not move. This couch potato loves to give kisses and snuggle in your lap or under your feet while you work. She will need a secure, fenced yard, and will require lots of initial bonding activities with her new family and siblings (if any). She would be an excellent running partner or hiking companion. Inside the home she is a great alert barker - but not too barky. She does not approve of the UPS guy, the postal man, or the regular neighborhood walkers however after a little verbal correction she settles down quietly. Tasha is happy, healthy, UTD on vaccines, spayed and microchipped so her adoption fee is $375. If you haven’t already, please fill out an adoption application. REVIEWING APPLICATIONS
Hi Everyone! I’m Gus-like the lovable mouse in Cinderella. And my foster mom says if there is one word to describe me, it’s lovable. I want to go on walks with you, on car rides with you, to the office with you if that’s allowed, maybe have a romp in the back yard in the afternoon and then curl up for cuddles in the evening. My foster mom took me to the office and every meeting started late because I was soaking up the pets. Some people say GSPs are velcro dogs. I’m a superglue dog. I love love love my people.
I would do well in a home with one person who can take me lots of places or in a home with a few people who are relatively calm. Please no younger children. Like my namesake, I’ve hit my fair share of snags. I am not a huge fan of other animals, but in a subtle way. I’m very calm until they get too close for comfort and then I make it abundantly clear that they are in my space. So I would prefer a home with no other pets. But I am okay with other animals from a distance. I’m not leash reactive and I remain calm unless they get too excited too close to me. I was a rock star at Home Depot. My foster mom took me there and everyone could tell I was “in training” and I put on a show! I know how to wait, with, sit, come and I respond well to an e-collar. I would like a fenced in yard-mostly to keep other animals out. So the height of the fence is not of great importance. I’m also crate trained and house trained. I love bones, a jolly ball, enrichment toys (like a kong wobbler or a snuffle mat), and I’m mostly looking for a soft place to land and spend my golden years. I’m eight years young and quite the catch if you ask me! I’m neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped. My adoption fee is $375. If you are here for all the loves and want to be my forever home, please fill out an application and email my adoption coordinator Cathy (Segsp.cathy@gmail.com) My name is Duke and I am looking to fetch a family! I am a gorgeous big 5-year old boy with beautiful liver markings. I will fetch ALL DAY LONG. I would love a large chuck-it and plenty of the extra tough balls and a friend to throw them for me. I would like a large yard. Fencing required, but height of fencing is negotiable. I do respect the fence-particularly when used in conjunction with e-collar training, but I prefer and need supervision to make sure I don’t wander (those balls aren’t going to throw themselves!). I would do best with a family with e-collar experience or willingness to learn. My foster mom says I would make a great jogging partner. I do great on a gentle leader head collar and have a terrific gait and endurance. I love the water! I really enjoy when my foster mom gets the hose out and lets me play in the spray. If you have a pool and you’re willing to let me swim, I would love that too! I love a jolly ball and all of the enrichment activities my foster mom has done with me including the kong wobbler and the oversized snuffle mat! I ride great in a car and do very well in my kennel overnight. I am a bit vocal if I’m in there are people are up and about and having fun. FOMO is real! My foster mom took me all over town and even to work and I did great in public! I also love bath time and don’t even mind nail trim or ear wash time if you have a nice treat for me. I know how to sit and lay down and drop. I’m working on leave it and I have a really hard time with “stay” but I’m definitely trying! As I said, I am a big boy (about 80 pounds). My foster mom is not a short woman and when I stood on my hind legs to see what she was holding, we were eye to eye. So I could definitely knock smaller, less stable children over.I would love a home with older, sturdy children who are unlikely to get knocked over or hurt if I get excited. My foster mom recommends no children under 4 feet tall and the taller the better. My foster mom is going to give you some more details about me, but trust me, I’m a catch!
Duke is looking for an experienced or very coachable owner. He is more headstrong than a typical GSP. He is not reactive toward other animals from a distance and while leashed, but he is unpredictable in his interactions with other animals when they get too close for comfort. Therefore, he will be adopted out as an only pet for his safety and the safety of other animals. Duke is a very independently minded dog. He will succeed and thrive in an environment that is structured. He will do best in a home with consistent routines and not much variation in routine. We will be requiring an obedience course for Duke and his adopters to ensure you both speak the same language and are off on the right foot as you become a family. We will require proof of enrollment at the time of adoption. Duke is healthy, UTD on shots, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $475 with a $100 refund once you provide proof of completion of a basic obedience course. If you think you’re Duke’s forever family, please complete the application and then email Duke’s foster mom, Vicki at vicash15@gmail.com |
