Jack
(2011 - 2021)

Our hearts are heavy after learning that our 2016 alumnus Jack has crossed to the rainbow bridge.  Jack was surrendered at age 5 to an Alabama shelter before being transferred to SEGSP.  He was heartworm positive and starved for love.  Jack’s foster parents, quickly filled that void, and immediately realized they couldn’t live without him and adopted Jack.  Earlier this year after extensive vetting, it was determined that Jack had an inoperable tumor so his family brought him home and Jack enjoyed two months sniffing his yard, laying in sunbeams and enjoying all dog things.  From his mom Mary:

“We are eternally grateful to SEGSP Rescue for bringing Jack into our lives.  We proudly wear the title “foster fails” and we would not change a second of the time we had with him.  We like to think that we gave him a beautiful life in rescue.  He loved his yard, whether chasing squirrels or just sitting quietly in a shady corner.  He liked walks but was just as happy on the sofa in front of the fire.  He was a bed and blanket hog who frequently slept on his back.  He loved treats, pets, car rides, and belly rubs.  He liked most vegetables and would grab his own carrot from the crisper.  He was the sous chef in the kitchen – if dinner wasn’t started by 5:30 he would let you know, and then carefully supervise every step of the preparation, rolling over for a belly rub occasionally. He circled the dinner table until we were done and then waited for the dishes to be washed and put away to get his nightly treat. He was the dog that everyone wanted to meet and pet – he was handsome and who can resist a GSP’s silky, floppy ears? He was my companion on home visits for SEGSP and was a great ambassador for the breed and the organization.  We feel a bit cheated because the time feels so short.  He was perfect for us; the dog that we needed.  His loss is profound. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of adopting Jack.  After some time, I am sure we will be browsing the adoption pages in search of a new friend.  Until then, we are glad to offer our time to support the rescue any way we can.”

Run free sweet Jack…
