Rarity - AL

6/20/2022

Picture
Rarity, in Alabama, had a rough start.  She was found in a rural area, emaciated and covered in fleas and ticks. The vet estimated that she is 2-3 years old. She spent three weeks in her foster home (with Krewe de Rescue) and look at her now!

Rarity is a German Shorthair Pointer looking for a forever home! She is incredibly sweet, loving and snuggly. Rarity definitely needs someone who can be her “person” and love her in return. She is crate-trained and making progress with potty training, as well as commands. She seems compatible with young children based on experiences with kids who live near her foster family. It’s unclear how Rarity would handle a feline sibling, but is good with other dogs. She loves playing with her foster sister (also a GSP), chewing her toys, going on walks and searching out birds and squirrels. Like most dogs of her breed, Rarity needs daily exercise and opportunities to exert her energy. Her foster family says she’s been a delightful addition to their household and expects she will be the same in her forever home!

Rarity is heartworm positive but has started on slow kill treatment (she MUST continue on her treatment after adoption – no exceptions).  Her adoption fee is $175 and includes a vet check, vaccines, spay and a microchip.

If you are interested in adopting Rarity, please complete the application at https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=DMBCNVST

Experience with the breed and a fenced yard are required.

Johnny - AL

6/15/2022

Picture
Looking for a turn-key GSP? Johnny is a lovable, 2 year old, GORGEOUS GSP who is searching for his forever home.  He was pulled from a shelter in Cleveland, Alabama by Southern Skies Rescue (a Lab Rescue), but is most assuredly a German Shorthaired Pointer.  He is currently in Arab, AL.

Johnny is very playful and has GSP energy so he’ll need a family that is willing to give him the exercise he needs.  He is great with other dogs and children (he is very rambunctious so bigger kids are preferred so he doesn’t accidentally knock the small ones over).  He’s a lady’s dog and loves female canines, and is pickier with male canines, preferring ones that aren’t aggressive – after proper introductions of course. So Johnny would need a meet-and-greet before he approves of a male canine sibling.

This handsome boy is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative meds.  That, combined with his loving personality, makes him a turn-key GSP!

If you’re interested in adopting Johnny and giving him the love he is craving, please complete a Southern Skies Rescue pre-adoption application at https://www.southernskiesrescue.org/adoption-application

Mikey - AL

3/29/2022

Picture
Mikey (GSP/lab mix) is 2 years old and a big baby. When he is not hunting his back yard, he loves to cuddle –with another dog or human.  He just can’t lay by himself – he’s just a loving kind of guy.  When he’s not cuddling, he LOVES to search his back yard for anything he might love. And although he has that hunt instinct, he DOES get along with cats.

He is up-to-date on his vaccinations, heartworm/flea/tick preventatives, is house-trained and crate-trained – he’s a smart boy and would like to learn more things.  He would like a fenced yard he can search for interesting things, and must have at least one canine companion to cuddle with.  His best buddy, a Great Dane, recently passed away and that was his cuddle partner.

Most of all, Mikey needs a family that has the time to give him exercise (he needs to lose a tad bit of weight) and will include him in adventures and will cuddle and love him back forever. If you're interested in Mikey contact Teri at martin.terilyn@gmail.com.

Ellie - AL

11/8/2021

Picture
Hello, my name is Ellie and I’m a pointer mix, about a year old and am currently in the Birmingham, Alabama area. I was found abandoned on a farm and a nice family is trying to help me find a forever home.

I’ve been to the vet and am very healthy, was spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.  When I was found I had demodectic mange from my Momma but that was treated and no issue since.  You’ll get all of my vet documents when you pick me up.

I currently live with 3 children and I really like those small humans. I also currently live with two older dogs (80 lb boxer male and 40 lb terrier female) and I love them both!  I’d love a running/playing canine partner but would like to meet them first to make sure they like me (but I’m really likeable…I just can play hard sometimes when I get excited).  My time at the dog park is super fun – I love to socialize and since I’m super cute, other dogs seem to like me too.  I haven’t met a cat yet, so don’t know about those…

I’m very smart and am crate-trained and sleep in my crate at nighttime. If you leave the house, you’ll need to crate me (with a super good treat so I know the crate is my good place) and then I won’t get into trouble while you’re gone. I’m also house-trained, play fetch like a pro and hunt chipmunks like you’ve never seen.

I am looking for a home with a tall fenced yard (6+ ft) since I’ve been known to jump my current 4 ft fence to see what fun stuff is on the other side.  A family that will play fetch with me is a must.  Trees and/or bushes in my fenced yard are a big plus so there are creatures to hunt.  And hey, if you’re willing to teach me to hunt bigger things than chipmunks, that would be awesome – although there’s no guarantee I’d be good at it, but boy would it be fun to try.

And finally, I would really love a family that loves me, lets me cuddle with them at night, and let’s me RUN RUN RUN to get all my pointer energy out – it’s my FAV thing to do!

If you’re interested in adopting me, please email the very nice woman who rescued me, Katie, at kchampion1014@gmail.com

Ruger - AL

8/29/2021

Mandatory for Ruger’s new home:  NO small children or other dog

Picture
Hi Y’all, I’m Ruger but some people call me Boogie.  I’m 5 years old (born on June 26th), healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, currently in Mobile, AL and I’ve been told I’m an amazing dog and such a sweetheart.

I’m a big boy, am FULL of energy and require a lot of attention (and deserve it  ) and I’m looking for a new home without small humans. Although little humans are fine, I now have two tiny humans in the house and, well, they make me nervous – all that running around and grabbing things is a bit exhausting (actually, a LOT exhausting) plus I’m BIG, so it’s easy to accidentally knock them over.  So, I would prefer a home with no little humans.  Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE humans but prefer the ones that respect my boundaries.

So I’m sure you can see that I’m handsome, but I’m also sweet, cuddly and loving like all GSPs. The ladies love me.  But I’ll be honest, sometimes my canine sister annoys me…she’s 11 and slower than me and getting weak, so I’ll show her who’s boss and growl.  For my forever home I’d prefer to be the only dog so I can be spoiled rotten, not have to share your love and I don’t have to share my toys and bed.

I’m house-trained, healthy, super smart and know basic commands (sit, stay, shake, lay down and even unlock deadbolt doors – yikes!), but don’t put me in a crate – they freak me out. And not sure about you, but those recent storms were pretty scary too.  When there are loud noises I prefer to be in a safe place with my humans to keep me calm (fyi, vacuums are horrific monsters).  My doctor put me on some medications to help with that anxiety so I will need to continue with my medicine.

I’ve never been around cats so a meeting first would be wise.  I also like to eat alone (boy, I sound like a picky pup, but hey, everyone has their quirks) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE tennis balls (and oddly, I’ll even share them with my canine sister)! My ideal humans would throw them for me to chase all day long, every day!

I’ve also never been around small dogs. I’d love a family that will introduce me (slowly and carefully) to new experiences and animals – just going on adventures with you would be fun.  And I love humans so much I tend to jump when you get home, so a human that can remind me that isn’t good doggy behavior would be awesome.  I’m smart (did I say that already?) and want to learn new things all the time.

I’d love daily walks – I do pretty well on a training collar with my current male human but tend to take advantage of anyone weaker than him and will pull.  I also LOVE water!  If you have a pool or can take me to a lake I would be a super happy boy!  Even a water hose in the back yard is really fun and I love boat rides. I’ve had dock diving lessons when I lived in Texas – that was AWESOME so I’d love to do that again if possible!

And I’ll wrap this up with my desire to cuddle, snuggle, smoosh-up to you as often as you’ll let me. And I hope that’s a lot!  I currently sleep in bed under the covers with my humans but I allow them to use me as a body pillow in return.  I would like to continue that tradition with my new family.

My absolute needs are 1) someone that includes me on adventures, and throws tennis balls (a lot), 2) a fenced yard for me to run in and hunt squirrels, 3) someone that spends a lot of time with me and lets me express my lap-dog tendencies and cuddling skills and 4) gives me a comfy dog bed for daytime (inside) and a human bed to share at night. If you have a pool that is EXTRA SUPER SPECIAL to me!

If you think you’re perfect for me, please contact my current family so they can talk with you more about how wonderful I am. You can reach Bethanie at Bno1421@jagmail.southalabama.edu

P.S.  In order to know you’re serious about taking care of me forever, I am asking for a rehoming fee of $200.  Trust me, I’m worth it!
