This April, we celebrate the first gotcha day for 8 beautiful pups. Learn more about them below.Happy 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary to our alumna Mia! From her mom Megan, “Mia is an angel; she has been such a blessing in our family! We couldn’t have gotten luckier with adding such a sweetheart into our home!! She loves super long runs, chasing lizards, car rides and bugging her Vizsla brother, Gunner!! She also loves just spending the day snuggling in her bed with her favorite teddy bear!! We are lucky to have a few other GSPs in our friend group so she has made lots of friends as well!! We thank the rescue again for providing such an amazing service to these wonderful dogs!!” Patty (aka Patty Mayonaise), is celebrating her 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary. From her dad Steve, “Patty is happy, healthy, and chasing a ball every chance she gets. Oddly, the same ball she had when we picked her up. We call it her "original accessory." She doesn't seem to care for other dogs for very long, but she loves people and demands that visitors check in with her before they come into the house.” Good girl Patty – you protect your family. Happy 1st Gotcha Day! Erwin, formerly Irwin from GA, is about to celebrate his 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary. From his mom Kirsten, “I can’t believe we’ve had Erwin for a whole year already. He has come such a long way and turned into such a good boy, always trying to be his best self . He is still the most water-crazy dog I’ve ever met (he tries to bathe in the water buckets at the dog park) and never passes on the opportunity for a nice soak. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and has a sound for each, producing some hilarious noises. He is incredibly smart, affectionate and sweet, and he just loves life. Even his sister (2016 alumna Lady) has taken to him and they’ve become great friends who keep us safe from lizards and squirrels every day.” We’re so happy for you Erwin – your journey is well on its way. Congrats on your 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary! Leo, formerly Leonardo, found his forever roomie one year ago in April 2021. Dianne and Leo are inseparable. From Dianne, “Leo loves sitting on the edge of the patio until a squirrel alerts him to point and chase. We walk every day and he now stops/sits on his own before we cross the street. He listens well and understands that I shake my finger no when he is naughty. Tug-of-war and fetch are his favorite games. He is not “kissy” but is typical GSP Velcro. Leo runs to the car but needs to be coaxed with treat to get in-a work in progress! The rescue is a great group and I am grateful for Leo-he is terrific!” Clank, formerly Clark, is celebrating his 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary in April. From his mom Michelle, “Clank is doing so well. It’s almost unimaginable. There was a time when we didn’t think he would be able to keep his leg - and now, he pulls my husband around the neighborhood on (slow) 2 mile runs! He loves to go hiking in the woods behind our house and he’s absolutely fearless climbing over rocks and fallen trees, crossing streams, etc. When he’s not doing those things, he’s likely snuggled up on the couch with one of us or with his brother, Patches (SEGSP - Dec 2018). He’s a talker and he loves to tell us stories about the squirrels in the yard or about how tragic it is that we are 15 mins late serving dinner. All in all, he’s just wonderful and we are so grateful to SEGSP for letting us foster him and letting him adopt us. We are also grateful for all of the support with his two hip surgeries and the physical therapy needed to help him regain his mobility. I think he has exceeded our wildest expectations for his recovery. We love him so much and he is just so interwoven into our family. He brings us joy every day!” YAY Clank – you are a super lucky boy! Alum Loki’s mom Allie says he is doing awesome… “he's been such a wonderful addition to our family! He loves chasing squirrels around the backyard, making friends at the dog park, and sleeping under the covers in our bed at night. His favorite foods are tied between his vitamins and pumpkin, but really loves anything tasty!! He likes to think he can talk and often carries on conversations with us - he sounds just like a wookie! He's also recently gotten a new cousin (my sister adopted a puppy) who comes over two days a week. They love playing together and Loki is teaching her how to be a proper dog. I've attached a few of my favorite pictures of him - feel free to use any of them you like. One of them features another alum, Cece!” Our 2021 alumna Birdie from TN has a huge catalogue of photos her mom has taken of her. We’ve been told she is the best girl (even when she’s not ). She loves balls, loves her brother Tuck, loves searching for critters, loves snuggling, and of course, loves her forever family (which was her former foster family). Alumnus Cash, formerly Benelli (the puppy) is doing amazing considering all he’s been through, He came to rescue in October 2020 as a young pup with an injured back leg and it was eventually amputated to ease his pain. From his mom Rachel, “He is such a blessing. The sweetest dog I’ve ever met, so loving. He has overcome so much! The group photo is when we took him to SC to visit his old foster family and mama, Paolina Green a while back. He loves his mini horse brother, Wrangler, his GSP sister Lucy (liver color) and his GSP friend, Brew! I attached and before and after photo. He looks so great and gets along good on his three legs! I’m so happy this little boy found us and fits in perfectly with all our other animals. Thank you.” Got an alumni update for us? Please share it!

Happy Easter and "Sunday Alum Day!" It's been a beautiful week here at SEGSP Rescue and we are excited to share this weeks updates. Check them out below!2019 Alum, Ernie, sure has come a long way from a homeless pup, to a movie star! Recently, he was featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show for naughty pet stories. The entire clip is hilarious, but if you are looking for just Ernie, he is at 3:33. Click Here. We have an amazing volunteer, Catherine, that makes dog dolls for the dogs adopted in rescue. This is her amazing work of Fergie who was adopted (foster fail!!) in February of 2022. Sweet sweet Sunny turned 9 and had his “first“ birthday this weekend since being adopted. Lots of pets, some extra snacks, and a couple of toys (that his annoying little brother immediately stole!). He’s such a good boy and his parents say they love him to the moon and back. Our 2015 Alum Abby is enjoying being a mother hen with current foster puppy siblings Alex (red collar) and Andy (teal collar). Abby came into rescue as a pup as well, so she is showing Alex and Andy how wonderful rescue life is…thank you Abby! Happy Easter from alum (Samantha - formerly Osha) and Opal, fostered by Mary, who is up on our website looking for a forever family (https://www.segsprescue.org/north-carolina/opal-nc) Alum Minnie Pearl, Alum Tate and their brother Jake would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter. These are some cool dudes! Send us your alumni update today! It really makes our week. [email protected]Thank you all for the updates this week. Our volunteers work hard all year long to find the best homes for our GSPs, and the greatest reward is getting an update on pups living their best life! That's what Beau, Buddy, Gus & Tucker have in common; they are loving their new lives! Our 2021 alum Beau didn’t want to be left off the alumni website blog! From his mom Natalie, “He is doing so well and is absolutely living his best dog life. He still loves his golf cart rides and has everyone at work trained to take him on one when he wants to go for a ride. He will just sit on the seat until someone caves into taking him. He went out on his first boating experience and he had so much fun watching all the birds and playing in the water. He recently discovered mud and that seems to be his new favorite thing, although it is not mine, lol.” Oh dear – mud and a GSP is not a good mix! But we’re happy you’re so happy Beau! Buddy, 2021 alum, loves watching the birds in his huge yard! He also enjoys lounging around and is getting very smart thanks to training time! Buddy, we are so happy you are living your best life with the Sparks family. It only took 18 months for Gus and his cat-sister, Sagwa, to become best friends. But now, they love to nap in the sun or watch their humans eat together. Thanks to the Maki family for the great update! The Pomerance family are celebrating 2020 alum Tucker's gotcha day! From his mom, Mary, "Here’s is a new one of our sweet and goofy boy. We are truly blessed to have him brighten our days with his antics, cuddles and happy personality. While no critter is safe in his backyard he has never met a human that he hadn’t instantly adored. He likes his canine friends too but people are the best…along with car rides, cheese and harvesting all my berries when in season!! Thank you for all you do for these wonderful dogs." Tucker, we know you are so happy with your family! Got an update for us? Email it; we would love to feature your SEGSP alum on social media! So many updates this week that we are excited to share with you. Remember, to send us your alumni news to be featured on the blog and social media. Happy Sunday Alum Day!2020 Alum Blue (formerly Albert) is giving his mom Missy the side eye for working on a Saturday. Alum Pennie (formerly Harlequin) had a play date with her foster siblings Tate (formerly Griffen from courtesy page), new foster Umbra (aka Cricket) & Jake yesterday. They played fetch for an hour at Pennies' house, it was so wonderful to see her and see how much progress she has made with her new family. She has already hiked so many places and been on vacation with her family. Their weekends revolve around her which makes her so very happy. She is definitely living her best life. A few days ago was Buddy's (formerly Ollie) gotcha day. 6 years ago his parents drove to the Tampa, FL area to pick him up and haven't looked back since. He is a joy! Happy Sunday Alum Day Everyone! |
